I had something similar happen to me about 10 years ago.
I went through a traumatic emotional experience, and fell into a depression that lasted a few months. During that time, I developed insomnia, and when I did sleep, I had the dullest, stiffest dream: I was stuck in a corner in a shadowy room with very little light. I was probably wearing a gray suit. I didn't move, and absolutely nothing happened! I was, and I am, used to very vivid, adventurous dreams. I'd ask myself, "What happened to my nightly movie?"
So, I'm guessing that you are probably depressed for the time being. Perhaps something has happened that has thrown off your emotional equilibrium.
You might want to find a therapist to talk to, or you might share your feelings with a trusted friend or relative, or a clergy person.
You might also treat yourself to interesting, colorful daydreams, since your night dreams aren't doing it for you right now. Also consider watching some great videos or DVDs!
I believe that in time, this too shall pass.

Mmmmm Well, dreams are the way the brain "sifts" through information. If your dreams have become dull is it perhaps that your life has become so also? "Lucid" dreams are ones in which you participate, can change as you wish, replay till you are happy with the result, rather like film? Try that, go over your dream and make the changes that you wish for, at the end of the day you are in charge of your brain not vice versa! Hope it helps x
