I have a Clerical Studies certicate so I do have training in various software programs (mostly Microsoft) and I have job experience in food service/hospitality and mostly in childcare. However in my town I find it difficult to even find work at most fast food resturaunts here :(

Well I live and work in Phoenix, and from my experience a big city job market has advantages and disadvantages.

The big advantage is of course more opportunities. More new listings every day on the online sites like careerbuilder.com and monster.com.

The big disadvantage is since there is a larger pool of discontented and/or unemployed workers, every new job opening gets literally assaulted by resumes. Typically a new job listing will get up to forty resumes submitted to it in just the first 48 hours. And many of those people may be better qualified than you are, or may be willing to work for less pay than you.

Overall I think fewer opportunities but less competition may be the better situation for a serious job search (six month period),

In general, yes. But it can swing one way or the other depending on which type of work you are looking for.

Depends ,
Are your certifications in software or IT ?
Or are they in agriculture ?

All depends on your background (which you did NOT mention) .
