There are two types of bridges hung from cables. One example is Golden Gate bridge, CA or George Washington Bridge, NY that has main cable curved hanging from one end pier to another end pier, and straight cables vertically hanging From main curved cable and lifting bridge deck. It is called SUSPENSION BRIDGE.
Another type is from pier, straight cables at different angles reaches to bridge deck and lifting bridge deck. Ex. Sunshine Skyway bridge, FL, Dams Point Bridge, Fl.
This link below will illustrate and give a lot of basic information about both types of bridges.
