I'm not a christian, but I suspect there probably was a pretty huge flood at one point.
The stuff about all the animals and the ark, on the other hand - I would say that was probably only loosely based on any sort of actual event.
Maybe some farmer actually managed to save some of his animals in a boat. Beyond that, its mostly exaggeration and imagination.
As for proof that it happened, there have been some legitimate scientific papers published that discuss geological features in North America and postulate that they were caused by some pretty massive and sudden out-flows of water when the North American ice sheet melted at the end of the last ice age.
Its an established fact that the sea level rose about 100 meters at that time. Obviously there was some pretty significant flooding. The Himalayas didn't get covered or anything, but I'm sure that there was a flood that most people around the world noticed.

Not proven--- if you read the Biblical account of God causing two of each "kind" of animal--which is to say animals of a group that are inter-fertile like one pair of dogs for all the wolf, coyote, dogs,etc...one pair of horse-type animals for all the horses, donkeys, zebras, etc...that we see today as different species and sub-species. Studies have been done on the Ark's dimensions and have concluded that there was enough room for 144,000 sheep sized animals---that's a lot of animals. They were probably brought to the ark by God as juveniles to make them smaller and more able to reproduce when the flood was over. The general consensus on living conditions aboard the ark is that God perhaps caused the animals to partially hibernate for the duration of the flood to reduce the need for food, water and waste disposal. The problem is we have no way of knowing because the Bible doesn't explicity tell us but there are theories of how it might have been done---God can do anything....he has power over nature and animals.
Proof of a worldwide flood is found everywhere in geology, fossil remains, coal and oil deposits, poly-strata fossils, sea creature fossils at the top of mountains, diatomaceous earth deposits, Grand Canyon, the oldest trees, reefs and deserts on the planet are all only 4500 years old at the most as one would expect from a global flood occuring at approximately that time period. The salinity of the oceans indicate an age of less than 10,000 years, There are over 70 similiar versions of cultural flood legends worldwide which seem to presume a global remembrance of a flood not just a local event.
No need to believe it's a myth---the evidence is overwhelming that it occured just as the Bible says.

My personal guess is that there was a flood; it was not the whole earth. It was just the area in which Noah was living. Which at the time probably seemed like the whole Earth since it was all they knew. I would also guess that Christians and Jews alike believe that Noah would have been able to build a ship of that magnitude if G-d were “helping” him. He was given specific instructions for the boat. If you are Christian and believe in G-d then you believe that G-d has the power to do ANYTHING. Including have Noah build a very large boat to house a lot of animals.

The flood story probably did not actually happen the way it is described in the bible, if it did happen at all. Most of the things you read in the bible are stories, and it is only telling you a very creative and interesting version of what atually happened. Something similar to a great flood might have happened, but i doubt that noah and his family built an ark all by themselves and filled it with two of every animal....doesn't sound realistic.

The Flood account answers many questions about how the present geography, geology and topography came to be.
Those who would rather God didn't exist avoid the proofs of the Flood and how the world was changed by the falling of the "greenhouse" waters above the earth and the rising of the waters from below ground covered all things.....until these waters gathered on the poles when the earth's axis was changed.
Yet they are very sure that if they waters melted again....the earth would be covered again and withou a very, very big boat ALL would die.

Biblicaly speaking , the reason for that flood was to wipe out the Gibors ( the offspring of the fallen angels and earthly women). They were in a certain region. So it was only necessary to flood a certain region. Since it was only a regional flood (but still huge) the only animals that needed to be aboard the ark were the animals that were indigenous to that region. This isn't exactly rocket science. But in your defense there was a global flood before Adam and Eve.

One possibility is that Noah took two of each baramin, rather than two of every variation.
If there was no sort of global catastrophe, the only explanation for the hundreds of feet of sedimentary strata which blanket the continents is the slow, inevitable processes of erosion and deposition, which would have to continue on for longer than the human mind can comprehend. Finding the foot that fits is preferable to cutting off toes.

It's called the science of archeology. But that science also casts a huge doubt on the latest silly fad - global warming cause by humans. And it has failed to elevate Darwin's theory to scientific fact. So evidently archeology has been eliminated as scientific truth. To bad. A good science down the tubes because it disagrees with modern, pre-conceived, and computer generated, "science."

I'm sorry, but could you provide a source for your information? Christian or not, an appeal to anonymous authority is still a fallacy.

Read your natural history, at one point approximately 10,000 years ago the earth was under water. This has been established..
