I'm in Karate, and I think it is great. I know some really cool moves, and it's not like you're just limiting yourself to karate, there are plenty of seminars to go to for judo and jujitsu anyway. Most of the kicks and strikes are the similar to one another in both Karate and Tae Kwon Do.

Karate is awesome, because we get to do sparring aswell. (Where you put on gear and you have to be fast and quick thinking to kick and punch for points). If you can be light on your feet, I would suggest karate. I love it, and the whole school is mostly guys. I think its more attractive when a guy is in martial arts, so that'll play to your strengths.

Just look into them both, and see which you like best, most karate schools offer a month or so free that way you can see if you'll like it. I go to Karate America and its an awesome after school activity.

After having studied both Tae Kwon Do and four styles of Karate, I would tend to lean towards Karate.

TKD doesn't teach weapons training. Weapons training is important to defend one's self in a street fight, so I feel TKD is a bit limited in some regards and a good style of Karate is a more complete system.

karate is generally more of a well rounded art. there's more to learn, and there are more applications to karate techniques than tae kwon do techniques, generally speaking. in my own opinion, karate is more geared toward actual fighting, whereas tae kwon do seems to be more about challenging yourself. you'll learn a lot more about hand techniques in karate, and tae kwon do is mainly high kicks, which have there time and place, but those times and places are few and far between. personally, if i had to pick between the two (and i really don't care for either one, to tell the truth. they're both too classical and artsy for me. i'm more of a jkd/boxing/grappling kinda guy), i'd pick karate.

I think you should take tae kwon do because my friend at school goes to tae kwon do and he says its a better workout than karate. After like 1-1 1/2 years he had a mini 6 pack, good torque, and good muscle strength. I really recommend tae kwon doe...although both of your choices cost like 70-100 per month, maybe even more

Hey you should get a job and save for college or do your homework BUT if you must take either one then go with Karate
Because Tae-Kwon-Doe is designed to battle people on horses in the old days and karate is is designed for self-defense on the ground
I don't think you are going to be fighting any horseback enemies in this century lol

Tae Kwon Do for sure! its alot tougher than karate and you will definately be more dangerous! i know a few people who take it and LOVE it. I do mixed martial arts myself and i can tell you right now that karate isnt that bad but its not all its cut out to be. i think its overrated and its pretty basic. good luck!

The art of Taekwondo was created by a Corean master best known as General Choi. He was 2nd dan black-belt karate and had studied karatedo during the Japanese colonization that took place in Korea between 1910 and 1945. So, if I were you I would study Japanese Karate.

Karate has more facets and better for self-defense in my opinion. Tae Kwon Do is more for sport- all that high kicking will get your butt kicked on the street. So it's really up to what your intent is. :) Good luck with whichever one you choose.

Find a good Karate school that isn't expensive, has plenty of students, friendly and open senior grades, and an approachable teacher. Try and avoid sporty clubs unless you want trophies, but be careful, sometimes all you get is sports not defense.
