if i go to a bank, and use a coinstar to get an amazon gift card (do all coinstars have that?), will it take some money from me? like if i put in 50 bucks worth of change, will it take like 8 cents per dollar?

There is no charge from Coinstar if you use it to get an Amazon gift card. I have done this numerous times. I just dump the change in there and get an Amazon gift card and use it to buy whatever from Amazon.

The trick to giving gifts is to really know your friend. Don't look at the gift, but sit down, relax and think about what your friend is like. If they like shopping, then a gift card from the local mall would be great. If they are not rich (eg a student or elderly relative) they can use the gift card to buy things they need. On the other hand, Amazon has lots of books, DVDs etc. If they like reading or buying DVDs then this is a good idea.
