I am getting a needy family holday things. The family has a 12 year old girl and I was very stumped. I found some things here are my things:
- make-up kit
-scrapbooking kit (inculding a few disposibal cameras)
- purse with $10
- necklace
- radio
- a few cds
- magazine subscribtion to seventeen

1. Not the "Seventeen" subscription, or "Cosmo Girl" -- I think it's too sophisticated for a 12 year old. But I'm a famous fuddy-duddy :-)
2. On the scrapbooking kit, it would be helpful if you included a gift certificate somewhere so she could get the pictures developed.
3. Radio/CD player would be nice. An inexpensive MP3 player and a gift certificate for iTunes might be a good idea, too.
4. An inexpensive pay-as-you-go cell phone.
5. Make up kit -- ok, but really, 12 year olds don't need to be slathering on makeup. How about a manicure kit, instead?
6. Gift certificate to a clothing store.
7. Instead of a necklace, how about a gift certificate to someplace like Claire's -- 12-year-olds adore picking out earrings, necklaces,etc, they can spend hours at it.
8. A diary.

I have a niece thats 12 and she is in to music, ask the 12 year old what kind of music she's into. Maybe she will enjoy something from the artist, or get her a cd player.

i think the purse idea may be good. Girls love purses :) As well as the kind gift, she could get something else she wants so you wouldn't have to worry about getting her something she'll never use. It's always hard picking gifts for people you don't know :) I always try to stick with the youngest children I can find :)

you are a wonderful person for doing that. Her self esteem is going to fly through the roof because of you!!! The world would be a much better place with more people like you. pat yourself on the back, you deserve it and them gifts sounds wonderful...a high musical Cd would be popular for that age, as well.

I think 17 is a bit much for a preteen, but everything else sounds great, especially the scrapbooking kit.
