and ur trying to gain weight
and ur working out ur upper body
all the calorie intake would go to ur lower body and not help out ur upper body?

no. the calories go to where they are needed and if you are working your upper body your muscles need extra energy to preform as well as extra energy to repair themselves and grow larger. the body is VERY efficient at getting food energy from calories to where it is needed in the body the most. teh downfall with just working your upper body is you risk giving yourself an unbalanced physique, not just in terms of looks but also in terms of musculature. all of the bones, tendons, joints and muscles in the body work in conjunction to make you function properly...if a certain part of you is not in balance with the rest it causes postural defects as well as injury.

I heard that working your legs out that they will build the muscles in the rest of your body a lot quicker

Why not do an all over workout and then you wont have to worry.
