Hi guys, I got a second offense DWI (Felony) a couple weeks ago. I am currently out on bail. I was wondering if I left state, what would happen? Would I be able to get a driver license in another state? And just be a fugitive of New York? Or what if I left the country? Would they check my records and see I am wanted and arrest me and send me back? Im curious to the out of state thing cause my father did it when he owed thousands in child support and is doing fine out of state. And my cousin did it when he had drug problems, he moved out of state to dodge the law. I think they caught him when he came back to NY though. I dont know but can you really move to another state and not come back to the one you were arrested in? Thanks

you flea a bench warrant will be issued for you, you will never be able to get another drivers license in any other state until you cleaned up the matter

now if you are caught in another state would NY expedite you back to NY depends where they would catch you, in NJ simple drive probably get caught in LA, CA probably not

but the bails bond man who lost the bail will come after you and they will bring you back to NY if they catch you, and you will get locked up and will not be able to make bail again because you fled

If you leave the state you will forfeit your bail. If you were bailed out by a bail bondsman, the bailbondsman will forfeit the bail and send a bounty hunter after you to bring you back.

The state you move to will have an extradition agreement with the state you came from. When you are stopped for a traffic ticket in that state there is a good chance that they will discover the outstanding warrant and send you back for prosecution.

A good example of how this can work against you is the case of Norman Hsu the prominent fundraiser.

Norman Hsu skipped out of a felony conviction in California in 1992. The outstanding California warrant was discovered recently after Norman Hsu became a prominent fundraiser and wealthy man in New York.

Norman Hsu had to go back to California to face the 1992 conviction. Norman Hsu again jumped bail and was arrested on Colorado.

I recommend hire a good attorney and get the charges against you resolved.

You do not want to find yourself in the kind of position that Norman Hsu found himself.

yea you can leave the state and get another license in another state...but no matter what you will not be license to drive in New York even if you have another license in another state, there not going to ship you back all that stuff cost money to the state, most of the time they really don't care, leaving the country would be fine, other country's don't extradite people unless its a capital offense, 9 out of 10 times people get caught coming home to see family in a state were there wanted

the problem is a felony warrant will follow you where ever you go state to state and you will not be able to get a license in another state all bmv/dmv are connected now by computer so if you do run don't go looking for a new license you will be arrested and sent back to new york for prosecution good luck just Handel it now and you wont have to worry and you kinda get what you deserve when driving drunk you put yours and everyone Else's life on the road in danger

Child support is generally not a felony an dnothing to be proud of or a person who I would want my kid sto be like..
You would have an arrest warrant put out for you. Additional charges would be filed, wont be able to get licence and most jobs without a false name. Oh BTW. They will be more than happy to ship you back to NY to face the even more unhappy judge. Your choice but I would turn you in......

An arrest warrant will be issued in your name, in some cases, extradition will extend nation wide, in other cases in will only extend within your state or local states.

You will never obtain a drivers license in another state, if you go to a country that has extradition, you may be arrested by that country and returned to the United States.

With all due respect, take your punishment and do your time. It's not too late for you to break the cycle of a long line of losers in your family. Oh and to answer your question, they'll get you sooner or later and your life is going to suck monkey, because you can't have any sort of a life without some sort of an I.D., running, always looking behind your shoulder.

The warrant may be lively in Texas basically. collectively as different states might even see the warrant while they run your call it is going to maximum probable have a no extradition clause related to it. Warrants with extradition potential are in many situations reserved for severe violent crime basically

You brought this on yourself pal. Stay and face the music because running away will dig you in deeper. And if you apply for a liscence in anther state they do check to see if you have any violations.
