(Because I left America too early to know any of this, and the education system in Britain is quite different)

In most areas it is as follows:

Kindergarten: 5 year olds

Primary School -- First through Fifth grades (6-11)

Middle School -- Sixth Grade through 8th grade (12-14)

High School 9th through 12 grade (14-18)
(also called Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior).

College or University -- four years to get a Bachelor's degree

Master's Degrees and PhDs can be earned after a BA or BS.

In some school districts, primary school goes through 5th grade, followed by three years of Junior High School (instead of middle school) and three years of High School.

Elementary school is kindegarten through 5th grade. You start elementary school usually when you are 5, and get out when you are 11.
After that is middle school, which is grades 6,7,8. You start at age 11, and get out when you are 14.
From there is when you go to high school which is grades 9-12. You start as a 9th grader at 14 years old, and finally graduate at 18.

The ages are not the same for everyone, it's just the average age. Some people wait until their kids are 6 to put them in kindegarten now.

There isn't a country-wide curriculum, if that's what you mean.
Curriculum goes by state, the courses and standards can vary. The core courses are very similar(English, histories,
science, and math) but the physical education, art, &music
vary according to what that state deems important enough to
fund. There is a big social movement to home-school kids for
various reasons. That criteria varies with state. School is com
pulsory only to 16 yrs old. You would need to contact the state
Dept. of Education for the respective standards &courses.
