I read something on an online article that said if you had to choose between cutting calories or exercising, cutting calories will make you lose weight. When you still eat the foods you like but exercise you will probably gradually gain muscle and lose some weight, you will be healthy. But if you are really looking to lose weight cut calories and exercise. Your plan sounds good... good luck.

That sounds like a good plan. For one, you're eating, and you're not depriving yourself from the foods you like. A diet of carrots and lettuce sucks anyways, which is why so many people eventually binge.
The exercise component also is good, if you can stick with it that is. In my opinion, I think you should set your goals small to begin with, then work your way up. Exercising EVERY night has good intentions behind it, but it's easy to get burnt out that way too. Maybe start by exercising AT LEAST 3 days a week, that way you don't feel pressured and quite while you're ahead.
But of course, you set your own pace, and do what you're comfortable doing. All in all, I think you have the right idea. Good luck!

If you are not making healthy choices the caloric value doesn't really matter because you will be taking in bad carbs, bad fats a lot of sodium etc. These are all things that impede weight loss, devalue your workouts and make you retain water weight. Plus depending on your size that may not be enough calories in which case your body will store fat and burn muscle.
