They use the court systems to further their advantage but they don't participate in politics (well, except for the United Nations, undercover, that is).
They won't go to war but claim privilege and holiness because of being persecuted for freedoms they won't defend but fought hard for by others?

forgot this one, thank you Simon Peter:
"let's not forget to add to the list: now that they are able to accept blood fractions, they still are not allowed, by the dictatorate to donate blood to replenish the blood supply, even though it takes a lot more blood per volume to spin down to collect these fractions than it does to just transfuse whole blood."

ooh.. narcissism. Wonder what Simon Peter thinks?
Makes me wonder if different religions have a religious culture just as corporations have their own corporate culture, and if so, what are they?

Bambi, everything you're proud of is what you 'did' in your worldly days. What do you do now?

can't have it both ways, Bambi. You can't be proud of a past and a present in which you would not personally live. You are talking the talk but not walking the walk. That's your SON'S pride and your FATHER'S pride you describe. You gave that pride up with your new religion. you should print out your post and give it to your elders and see what counsel they give you.

BabyB, I didn't know that about Amish. Now THAT'S separateness.

You make a good point. Amish people separate themselves from the world, they don't collect government aid in anyway, Social Security. Jehovah's Witnesses take sources from the government yet talk about how corrupt it is. The whole UN business is enough to prove that. Also, other churches give to charities and give back to the neighbohood and community. Jehovah's Witnesses just bring traffic and their propanada to the neighbohoods they move into. They don't do anything for the public in general like other religions. Hypocritical if you ask me.

I am the opposite of you , i was raised a JW but i thought the non JW's had more fun so i never became a baptised JW and went my own way . I am much older now & realize i made a mistake .All i learned as a kid rings true. You should contact the JW's and arange a study , at 16 i think you are old enough to make up your own mind but be warned Satan will make it hard for you Do not expect your parents to understand. You will need to sit down & explain how you feel and ask them to respect your decision. You never know if you stick with it and explain to them with the bible you may get them to open their eyes too. I wish you well but doubt it will be easy. After reading your other answers it is clear to see many have no idea what they are talking about , if you are starting to see the false teaching in your religion compared to what's in the bible , you are a step ahead of other people Don't listen to them keep studying the bible you will find the truth. Note . The JW's answered you here with encourgement & scripture , the non JW's answered with discourgement & unfounded accusations . As the bible says reguarding the true religion by their fruits you will know them. Don't forget to pray about it.

You are living proof that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!
In Acts 5:27-29 Peter laid the ground work for our approach to preaching the good news.
In countries more oppressive than here the good news is being preached. In countries where brothers and sisters are beaten and sometimes murdered for their beliefs the good news is preached.
In the country that is supposed to be blessed by God and tolerant of different religious point of view,God's word was being restricted.
Seeing that we won our cases,we must have been right.
But The Witnesses weren't the only ones to benefit from the Supreme Court decisions.
And in this country of freedom we have the freedom to consciously object to participating in wars.Would you have that freedom taken away?
But as long as we are looking at the Jehovah's Witnesses let's look a little deeper.
Do you realize Jehovah's Witnesses are among the very few religions that can factually state that one member has NEVER killed another member in war.And we are a worldwide organization.
No active member of our religion has passed A.I.D.S. to another human being because we are like eagles,we keep our mates for life!
We have not donated or received tainted blood because of Jah's law on the use of blood.
Try to look at the whole picture.
Cause and effect.

Do u know U are spinning tire about blood issues because of some falures. Jehovah's Witness use honesty in dealing with their taxes and so pay their taxes in full ,in so doing pay for the courts to function as well as they do, plus by upholding the laws of the land in an exemplary way contribute even further. This United Nations crap you promote, check it out baby before U speak.

some of the comments are a little narrow minded. witnesses are a world wide organization. so some may have freedoms many others don't. if you do not have proof you should not make the comment about the U.N. ( untrue) as for the blood issue it is a personal choice weather to take fractions or not many may not.
you contradict yourself. you belittle us for going to court to fight for our faith then you say we don't defend freedoms. we do what we can in the confines of the land in which we live. but we will not kill another person.
i know i won't get best answer because you don't agree but here's my view anyhow. i may not be the best example of a witness but i love being one and do my best.

Jehovah's Witnesses are LOSING members and are on the decline.
JAPAN LOSES OVER 600 CONGREGATIONS
Japan since the 1970''s has had amazing publisher increases! Every year the number of Jehovah's Witnesses shot up by many thousands. This peaked in 1998, since then the number of Witnesses and Congregations has continued to drop!
1998- Pubs 222,912 Congs. 3,802 {6 Years later}
2004- Pubs 217,555 {-5,357 Pubs} Congs 3,164 {-638 Congs}
Over 6 years what happened to the 5,357 publishers and 638 Congregations!! This is a mystery like the Burmuda triangle.

Of course, being truthful does not mean that we are obligated to divulge all information to anyone who asks it of us. “Do not give what is holy to dogs, neither throw your pearls before swine, that they may never, turn around and rip you open,” warned Jesus, at Matthew 7:6. For example, individuals with wicked intent may have no right to know certain things. Christians understand that they are living in a hostile world. Thus, Jesus advised his disciples to be “cautious as serpents” while remaining “innocent as doves.”
Jesus did not always disclose the full truth, especially when revealing all the facts could have brought unnecessary harm to himself or his disciples. Still, even at such times, he did not lie. Instead, he chose either to say nothing or to divert the conversation in another direction. Matthew 15:1-6; 21:23-27; John 7:3-10.
The inability of swine to recognize the value of pearls was employed by Jesus in illustrating the unwisdom of sharing spiritual things with those having no appreciation whatever of spiritual thoughts and teachings. (Mt 7:6)
The apostle Peter compared Christians who revert to their former course of life to a sow that returns to its wallow after having been washed. (2Pe 2:22) However, it is evident that, as relates to the pig, this illustration is not intended to apply beyond the surface appearance of things. Actually, the pig, under natural conditions, is no dirtier than other animals, although it indulges in wallowing in the mud from time to time in order to cool off in the heat of the summer and to remove external parasites from its hide.

The JWs have been involved in some major lawsuits that have set policy for freedom of speech and other issues. In prosecuting or defending those suits, I'm sure they produced and presented their own interpretation of current statutory, case, and constitutional law and sought to have it adopted by the courts. That's participating in politics/government to me.
However, that participation has been a great thing for this and other countries. Thanks to them, new freedoms have been incorporated into the Speech, Religion and other clauses.

As far as Christians go, perhaps.
As far as religions, I would say Buddhists-though it's more a philosophy and state of mind than 'religion' per say.
