Probably for the same reason that many Christians dislike "self declared" Atheists.Perhaps it is more that Christians dislike that Atheists don't believe and Atheists dislike that Christians won't respect that Atheists don't believe.

I have found that Christians can be very condescending to people who don't believe as they do.They say things like:

"Love the sinner.Hate the sin"
Which really is usually only used toward gays and lesbians and makes the sweeping assumption that gays and lesbians are doing something wrong that they chose. If that isn't arrogant and presumptuous and condescending then I don't know what is.

"You are lost without Jesus"
This condescends people to the basis that they can't be happy without Jesus and makes the assumption that the only way a person can have a meaningful life is with Jesus.Such arrogance in this preconceived notion.

"Only in Jesus can you be saved"
Another condescending attitude that makes the assumption that people want to be saved whether they know it or not or that they believe in Jesus in the first place.

Most Atheists don't dislike all Christians. They just dislike what Christianity often teaches.Blind and presumptuous arrogance and superiority based on condescension.

Have any Christians told you to "accept Jesus and you will goto heaven" ?

If so, then know that their claim is a boastful statement based on arrogance and the belief that faith alone will save them.

When they say they are guaranteed Paradise by faith then they have negated the value of the Mercy of God by not acknowledging that the final decision rests upon GOD and he will judge based on HIS criterion which may include the fruits of faith.

Therefore, there is no guarantee for Paradise based on anyones faith alone and nobody can be proud of their status based on faith.

If anyone tells you that if you bring faith into your life you will be guaranteed Paradise then know that they are boasting about something that is not in their control.

Why is it something that needs to be declared? If they were actually following Christ's teachings it would be self evident that they are a Christian by their actions and words.

Just because you or they go to church does not make anyone a Christian.. it would be like you standing in your garage would not make you a car. Some think they will be in heaven, just because they attend church every Sunday and shun those who might miss one Sunday..ect./. If you know your bible and know Christ... and are faithful... this is called a personal relationship with God.

Because so damn many of them are doing just that----declaring and declaring and declaring. They really ought to shut up about it after the first couple of hundred times.

Because of the bad behavior of self-declared Christians, of course.

Mystine, why would we want to be non-judgmental? I spent a lot of time and effort learning to make proper judgments, and I've become quite good at it. There's nothing particularly moral or even kind about being nonjudgmental, and I would never make that a personal goal.

I find a lost to be selfish and presumptuous to be quite honest. I am always willing to give a person a chance though. In fact most of my contacts are christian.

I don't dislike them.....not unless they declared they were Christian and expected some kind of special treatment or respect just because of that.

You call yourself WiseOne - and then make sweeping generalizations that are completely unfounded.

I doubt many atheists on this site DISLIKE Christians.

Its not the people we dislike, its the dogma and crap you spew about others that we dislike. You know - that whole hate the sin, love the sinner crap? Same things goes for you - you dont hate gays, you just hate gayness.

If it means you think you have status or some kind of advantage you're flaunting, then it can generate discontent.

Maybe it's best kept to one's self unless asked.
