What do you mean you couldn't find anything on GIMP, just go to gimp.org and download it OR go to download.com (link below). I recommend GIMP, it has many features of Photoshop and costs nothing.

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

Other alternative include: Paint.net or Picasa from Google.

You can download photoshop here: http://bit.ly/1p340sm

I'm a graphic designer and photoshop is my loyal buddy when I am at work. It's the leading software for photo editing and I use it to for all my projects. With photoshop you can to edit images, retouch pictures, make photo collages, apply effects, filters, add frames, text, etc. It can be difficult to use it if you are a newbie, but if you just need to do simple editing (e.g. resize and crop images, change colors) it's still the best tool to use.
You should definitly try it
Cheers ;)

between the main usual image modifying courses is Irfanview. yet another one is InPaint, yet to save the altered pictures, you may desire to click on PrtScn, then open Irfanview and paste it, then crop it. you will locate the web content with an elementary google seek.
