I was wondering if there was some place on the internet that I could do the research.

do a title search at your local court house. also check with your local historical society.

I did this when we bought our house and it was very interesting. Go to the county courthouse, to the registry of deeds. Ask to see the book where you are listed now. It will have your deed in it, and there will be a number of the next-oldest book, with the people who owned it before you. You just keep going back and back. You can check first and see if they offer it online, a few of them have scanned them in so that you can do it from home.

Our house was built in 1930 but I was able to trace the property all the way back to when a huge plot of land was given to someone by the King of England. (He stole it from the Native Americans, but that's another rant!)
