Nope....normally you don't put carpet in the closet if there are hardwood floors.

If the house has wood floors in the closet, it probably has wood
flooring under the carpet. People cover wood flooring instead of
fixing it right or because they grew up in a carpeted house and
prefer the feel of carpet. If you pull the carpet up from the tack
strip at the doorway of the closet you will see if there is finished wood underneath.
The carpet can be fastened back with a metal edging.

When the room was carpeted, they were too lazy to clean out the bottom of the closet. Not strange just lazy.

not really its easier to keep clean you don't have all that dust in the carpet fibers who vac's the closet any ways
