Don't take this litrerally.
Mirrors and cameras are inanimate objects, they don't harbour our secrets.
Looking in the mirror is a metaphor for examining ourselves within our family, community and our lives and finding who we are. By taking a critical view of ourselves we may find ways to make ourselves better people.
This is what I think your saying means.

They both can "reflect" a distorted image of the world. A mirror, at best sees the world backwards, and a photograph at best is limited as a slice of time depicted in a two dimensional view.
There has never been a time that the photographer didn't use selection of subject to make a statement and an angle, lighting, cropping or "effects" to exaggerate the point being attempted to be made.
Truth is a perception by itself, unless you are willing to accept Plato's concept of "Form."

what most people say is that pictures or the camera do not lie. they mean that what you see in a picture is more than a thousand words..it shows you how the person was feeling at the moment..for example i have pics taken of me in which i try to look happy and smile yet you can see that i am not and if you look at the ones where i am happy you can see that they are geniune. pictures and mirrors show the truth that we might want to run away from or turn our backs on.it also shows the person as a whole and everything they are doing, their mood, etc..also what you see in a mirror is what you get..pictures are the same..maybe sometimes it is good to look through pics and in the mirror to see the person you are or the one that you have become..

Neither a mirror nor a photograph are veracious for its own - what you see depends always on your personal view.
Moreover they are totally different tools, as the mirror shows the fluent of life and the photo just one captured moment and can be artificially modified in many ways.
So for me this saying belongs to the sort of "vanitas vanitum",
the vanity of vanities, though changing the deep philosophical intention to a more home-wear outfit, it becomes truly true,
saying: mirrors and photographs can help us find the truth.

I think a mirror is more accurate. When you look at yourself in a mirror your not still like a picture. People see you not still so a mirror shows that. A picture can be taken at any angle and stuff so it can make you look different. I would say a mirror is more accurate. Its hard to explain but I hope you get it in this message. Hope i helped!

I do not believe that Mirrors, and Photographs tell the Truth, they are Photos, that do not have anything about the one who is in the picture. If you really want to know about someones character, I would suggest that you look long and hard at the one who you would want to know what makes them tick.

Mirrors and photographs represent objective reality. This is needed sometimes because we're all good at decieving ourselves when we want to.
On the other hand there is more to reality than just objective reality. Thats when a mirror or a photograph can 'lie'. Science can't explain everything.
You can be smiling on the outside but depressed on the inside. You can lie to the outside world but you can't lie to yourself (well you can on a perfunctory level but its not good and the truth needs to be exposed)

To me, mirrors and photographs are but reflectors of our own images. They just narrate visually our physical looks. But to say they tell the truth?; I don't quite agree. Most mirrors and photographs don't tell exactly as we are as they may have defects in their prisms, projecting us quite a bit differently at times. And to say they keep secrets?; the more I don't agree. For who knows more what secrets we do have except our own souls.

Hi Rena, Photographs are fragments of individual moments of time,Human images captured through the lens.If people use the mirror for deceit then this is very bad.The real image is false and misleading. Then the picture is delusional.Projecting fake images of that person.

I am not really a good photographer, but I have noticed a few things about photos I took and others took of me. In photos so much is in the eye of the beholder - the photographer. I had a female friend in college who was beautiful, but it was impossible to take a nice picture of her, even if you tried to relax her by shooting a few rolls of imaginery film first. In my case, I love to take photos, but don't really enjoy having my photo taken by most people. It takes me a while to allow them to come inside my barriers. Funny!
