for the fitted sheet? The styles and colors are so limited for fat mattresses, this thick... Has anyone ever tried a cal king? Did it fit well enough to cover the mattress?

You can get king-sized sheets, CA or regular, for it - and it will work. However, you will have to contend with the extra fabric - tucking it in every time you make the bed (it will be too wide for the bed even with the deep pockets) and it will be slightly uncomfortable as you sleep on it each night and it bunches up - unless you're not a restless sleeper! (: For years before I could afford queen sheets of the type I wanted, I used hand-me-down kings. It worked, but had its problems as I've stated. Not enough to get me to buy new ones until I could buy the exact, VERY expensive ones I wanted though, lol! And who knows, you could be a better sewer than I am - you could simply run a quick seam down the middle of it after pinning in place for size.

If it's just a matter of getting the sheets to stay in place, they sell things that look like the old-fashioned mitten clips (clip on each end, elastic in the middle) that attach diagonally under each mattress corner, clip onto the sheet, and keep the sheet in place. If it's a matter of no regular size queen sheets covering the mattress at all unless they're deeply pocketed, you're pretty much stuck with either deep-pocketed or the solution you're already considering...

Have you tried looking online for deep-pocketed sheets? There might be a better selection online than you've found locally, if you haven't looked there yet.

Good luck! (:

Here in Florida you can buy sets with deep pockets everywhere. I just measured and ours is 15 inches deep and the deep sheets just fit. So that is a problem.

If you sew or know someone who does it would be easy to put a 10 or 12 inch band around the sides to extend the depth.

If you buy the larger sheets, you are going to have way too much excess material to contend with. There are sheets made to fit the deeper mattresses such as yours. Check also with better department stores.

try Northern Nights sheets at QVC. My mattress is 15 inches deep and they fit great! I have several sets and they are high quality.

Simple answer, no don't use the king sheets. You have 18" extra material to deal with. Go on line....there are thousands of places to get real nice sheets for your mattress.

Try www.domestications.com or www.overstock.com
