I am sure this has been asked but I can't find it. Why did Hendrick not use Budwieser? Jr. has such great rappor with them. I would think that would be more money for him then what Pepsico can bring. I don't really know though.

Hendrick basically explained it in his interview today. He said he takes car of people that take car of him. What he meant by that is he has had Pepsi as a sponsor for a long time that has stuck with HMS through thick or thin so he was already obligated to them. He has nothing against Budweiser but was already obligated to his current sponsors.

Budweiser used to sponsor the 25 car, but then left for DEI. There was some speculation that Rick Hendrick was bitter about that from all those years ago, and denied Bud the sponsorship of Jr. Another thing is that sometimes sponsors will have a clause in their contract that the team cannot have any other competitive product as a sponsor. Maybe Pepsi said that Hendrick cannot have any other beverages as a sponsor.

The National Guard was already in place and they just needed to secure a sponsor willing to just be on the car a slight majority of the time. With Pepsi already sponsoring Jeff Gordon it was a good fit. Rick had Bud as a sponsor before and I think there might be some hard feelings from when Bud left HMS but not sure about that part of it. As far as what they can bring to the table I think Pepsico is much bigger than Anheuser Busch as far as assets and profit.

Hendricks already has pepsico on board, and I have heard he did not want a beer co. Now Jr will be able to reach a younger audience, not just the over 21 crowd.. I have heard this mountain dew/amp national guard deal is more than his budweiser deal... All I care about is Jr in Victory lane next yr..

First, Budweiser and Hendricks haven't gotten along in a long while for starters. Second, Jr. is the most marketable guy in NASCAR, so they don't want his sponsor to be a beverage that only targets a small portion of the market. Third, Budweiser sucks.

I just assumed it was because Pepsi has been such a big sponsor for Hendrick that if they wanted to sponsor Jr.'s car, he couldn't really tell them no after all the money they've shelled out. I don't know that for sure though.

Hendricks already had sponsorship commitments with Pepsi, Mountian Dew and the National Guard.

Rick Hendrick wanted to honor his commitment to his current sponsors, namely the National Guard. Also he has an existing relation ship with Pepsi through the 24 car.

Also know he'll be able to market more Jr to children, which he could not due with Bud

People that dis NASCAR can just take a hike, it happens to be one of the most exciting sports there is.

As far as Hendrick not using Budweiser, I thought it was the other way around. But, I do not remember the whole story.

Bud didn't choose Hendricks because of the Pepsi products being Hendricks number one beverage sponsor. Bud would then be #2 which isn't cool with them.
