Of course, just like it took 2000 years for them to decide Mary Magdelene wasn't a hooker.

Absolutely because she was woman! You can thank the early founders of Christianity for that, to include Constantine. I believe that Matthew and Paul were very jealous of Mary the Mother and especially Mary Magdalene. People say "because she was not divine". Well, she was chosen by the divine, had the divines child in the flesh, was the only single person who was at Jesus' birth, his ministries, and his death. Written in some of the books that were cast out of the Bible at the Council of Nicaea, was evidence that she was of virgin birth herself. Remember, the Godhead came about at that Council of Nicaes after big debate, they had to come up with the Trinity in order to get around the 1st Commandment in which God says, "You shall have no other gods before me". How can someone worship Jesus without being in violation of this Commandment, thus, The Trinity!

The Godhead -- Father Son & Holy Spirit...
God is creator - God in three persons...
Jesus came to earth in human form - born of the virgin Mary who was human just like us - so no it's not because Mary was a woman - the bible says she is blessed among women. Like all women Mary is loved by God.
Be Blessed : )

Although it is a private doctrine, Catholics say she is a co-redeemer. Why, because of her agony at the foot of the cross, she suffered, too.
Also, she is divine because the doctrine of the immaculate conception states that God created Mary especially as a holy being so she could birth a holy child.
That is not the half of it, but I recommend you read THE THUNDER OF JUSTICE, by Flynn. You will see that tenants of spiritism has infiltrated the church.

Because she was a human, born with a sin nature, who sinned and needed a savior.
Luk 1:46 And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord,
Luk 1:47 and my spirit exulted in God My Savior.
She is not deity, never has been, never will be.

It's because she's not God, and not worth worshipping. She's the same as any of the rest of us, and had sins that needed to be forgiven.
Basically the Catholics just started praying to her because in Roman times lots of the new Christian converts wanted a female to pray to, to match their previous beliefs of many gods. So the church suggested praying to Mary because she was a decent person and a good example. But really... praying to your dead grandmother has about the same effect (which is, none).

Most definitely. However, I want you to remember the times that the trinity was created for the masses consumption. Women were basically owned like a sheep or cow. It seems that men were the only ones inspired by God to write in those days and probably were the only ones who knew how to write, so those who write have a tendency to write in their own image. I think even the books that are about women were written by men of those times.

Excellent question indeed.
Mary was member of an establishment jewish family, and she had a crush for poor carpenter Joseph.
Their son, born against the rules of their society, has been raised and educated to "new standards" SHE determined and established.
She teached him tolerance, vision and created a star out of him.
He was followed by thousands.
After his death SHE sent missions to East and West (Paul and Peter)
SHE decided to stab ROME , the occupant of her country, in the heart by making it the capital of Christianity.
NOW direct answer to your question: She was locked by MEN who took over the power of Rome in the role of the innocent Virgin Mary.
But SHE definitely is politically and socially speaking the foundress of Christianity that is a "continuation" of Judaism and a "revolution" against the "social rules" of the Bible.
Then, YES because she was a woman, she has been confined in the role of the "Madonna".

No it's because she is human. She was a creation, she was never the creator - but Jesus was. Like the guy above already said, God has no gender, he is not a sexist God. Sexism is a creation of humans

Man, even I know this one. She was a human being -- a very special one, and I think it does her (and probably Jesus) a disservice to reduce her role to just a convenient uterus and nothing more, but she wasn't in any way divine. Nor was/is any human being, male or female.

No, it's because she was human, not divine, she played no part in creating the universe. She was human just like you and me, not like God or Jesus or the Holy Spirit. Are you Catholic? God is Spirit, pure consciousness, He/She/It has no gender per se, so it has nothing to do with it.
