I want to try to make it with normal spices found in a cupboard. Any suggestions?

Mulling Mix

Add this wonderful mix of sugar and spices to apple cider or wine for a delicious hot winter beverage recipe.

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup brown sugar
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. dried ground orange peel
1 tsp. ground allspice
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg

PREPARATION:
Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and stir with wire whisk until well blended. Store in airtight containers in a cool place.
To make 1 serving of mulled cider or wine, place 1/4 cup mix, 1 cup apple juice or wine, and 1/4 cup cup water in a small saucepan.

Bring all ingredients to a boil and simmer gently for 5 minutes.

Mulling Spice Mix
Yield: 1 Servings

Ingredients

3 boxes (1-oz) cinnamon sticks
6 whole nutmegs (1 ounce)
1/3 c each chopped dried orange

1/4 c each whole allspice and

2 tb finely chopped; crystallized
- ginger (1 ou

Instructions

(Each spice bag holds enough to mull a 750 ml bottle of red wine - about
3-1/4 cups - or a half gallon - 8 cups - apple cider.)

Cut doubled layers of cheesecloth into fourteen 5-inch squares. Have
fourteen 10-inch-long pieces plain white string ready. Put cinnamon sticks
and nutmegs in a plastic bag and crush with a rolling pin or a small heavy
skillet until broken in small pieces. Mix with remaining ingredients. Tie
3 generous tablespoonsful in each cheesecloth square. Makes 14 bags.

To mull wine, stir 1/2 cup water and 1/3 cup sugar in a 1-1/2 to 2-quart
pan over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Add 3-1/4 cups wine and the
spice bag. Reduce heat to low, cover and heat very gently until mixture is
very hot but not boiling, about 20 minutes. Discard spice bag.

To mull cider, just add spice bag to 8 cups apple cider in a 2-1/2 to
3-quart pan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer 30 to 35
minutes. Discard spice bag. Makes 4 cups wine or 8 cups cider.

Apple mulling spice mix

Hot Mulling Spice Drink Mix

1 cup brown sugar
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. dried ground orange peel
1 tsp. ground allspice
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg

Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and stir well until well blended. Divide into 1/4 cup single serving portions for gift giving (perfect size for baby food jars) or in a larger jar for entire mix.

Tag for instructions:
To make one serving, add 1/4 up hot mulling spice mix with 1 cup apple juice or wine and 1/4 cup water. Heat on stove and serve.

Mulling Spices (For Wine/Apple Cider)

4 spice bags
10 min 10 min prep

6 whole cardamom
1 tablespoon whole cloves
1 tablespoon whole allspice
1 teaspoon orange rind
12 whole cinnamon sticks

Open cardamon pods and remove seeds; crust lightly.
Combine seeds with cloves, allspice and orange peel.
Place 2 teaspoons of spice mixture in the center of a 4 inch square of cheesecloth or muslin; bring corners together and tie with string to make a bag.
Tie 3 cinnamon sticks to each bag; repeat with remaining spice mixture.

Directions for use:
Place 1 bag in 1 quart apple cider, cranberry juice or red wine.
Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
Serve warm.

better still go into the supermarket and look for herbs and spice shelf....Schwartz make it in a jar...
