My grandfather is having open heart surgury to clear a blockage. He is 84. What are the risks?

There are alot of risks associated with open heart surgery. Pneumonia, unable to wean from the ventilator, blood clots, wound reopening. Make sure he starts moving around as soon as possible. Before that he should turn, deep breathe, and cough every couple hours (he can hold a pillow on the incision so that it doesn't hurt too much) after surgery to prevent pneumonia.
