That's just a professional racecar driver's mentality. What would have been shocking is if he said "Well, I'm better than probably 1/2 of the field on any given day. Maybe I'll get lucky and get a rain win before the year's up".
Oh and by the way 88 in 08 - Go JR!!!!

Look at what he's been able to do with sub-par equipment. 17 wins... 40th on the all-time list (ahead of Kenseth) isn't too bad. Maybe not the best, but he's definitely top 5. There are only 2 active drivers that have not been in Cup longer than JR that have more wins: Johnson and Busch (Busch only has 1 more win than JR, BTW).

I was pretty surprised by that. I want to be the best driver out there would have been better worded and think that is what he meant, at least I hope so.

Pardon me but you took what he said and posted it as FACT when that was NOT the way he meant it. IF you had actually listened to what he said then this is it." I believe I am the best driver out there, I have to believe that and so does any other driver". He was NOT blowing something outta his **** to make it seem like he feels he is the GREATEST THING ON EARTH. You took it completely out of context!!!!!!!!!

The best driver at What? Blowing engines?--Not winning races? DNFs? What he is best at is having the TV announcers on his bandwagon. And the best at making the most Commercials!!!

Let's see what happens. In my opinion he is one of the best drivers out there, but only time will tell.
Danica Patrick??? like she has proven herself. DEI is one of the worst operating teams out there, Truex is better than he has shown, Dale Junior is as well, and you will see that, RCR motors or not, their organization needs help.

Backs up what I've always thought. He's on drugs. Nascar better do a random test on him soon. He's good at blowing engines, spinning out, and saying really stupid things, but as a driver his record speaks for itself.

If you don't think you're the best out there then you have no business getting on the field or in the car. I don't think he is (by a longshot), but he needs to believe it for himself.

I was totally shocked when he said that. I guess he was giving himself a pep talk. He should not have said that since he is not in the chase.
