I grew up believing that there is one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. Meaning that once you are baptized no matter the age your sins will be cleansed easily as long as you seek forgiveness.

However there seems to be a group of people who believe that baptism is a religious right, or a leap of faith into their new religion (born again and such)

Leaving adult, baby baptism and quotes aside.

What does it mean to you? The right to have your sins washed away, a show of faith for your own religion or something totally different?

P.S.

I will not ridicule any honest answers, I’m just curious as to what you think it means. Everyone is welcome to answer.

Baptism is probably going to just mean what you want it to mean. You are going to have different interpretations from different denominations and faith groups. To Roman Catholics, baptism removes original sin. To Baptists, it is a statement of faith, following a commandment of Jesus Christ. To some, baptism imparts saving grace. To others, it is a covenant, but does not impart any saving grace, although regeneration is expected and assumed until proven otherwise. Those are your choices, pick the one that suits your own beliefs!

Baptism to me is a public confession that I have confessed that I am a sinner, that I have accepted Jesus's sacrifice for my sins, and I am turning (repent means to realize and turn away from) the sinful life I have been living.

As far a baptisms, it is important and a good thing, but far more important is the fact that one realizes that they are lost without the redeeming blood of Jesus. Please don't miss that point.

Baptism means that one dies for his old life and he is reborn as a new creature willing to live based on the Word of God.
Paul said that the hearts of those who are baptised are circumcised and that this is the real circumcision.
The acceptance and the confession of Jesus as Our Saviour is the Salvation of our spirits. We are forgiven by God through the Blood of Jesus, which cleansed our sins. The Blood is fundamental for God's forgiveness without which nothing else could be done!! All His Blood was spilled from His body to forgive us of our sins!

In short, baptism to me is an outward showing of an inward change/commitment. You resolve yourself to follow Christ and become as much like Him as you can ever afterward.

Im sorry i did not read all of it but my HONEST opinion on what baptism is when you are 'reborn' again.
When you are submerged in the water, the 'old' person is "buried" and a "new" person is 'born'

For me it is a covenant to take upon myself the name of Christ, and always keep the commandments. Father has promised to always have his spirit to be near me. My sins were washed away. When I partake of the sacrament each Sunday, I renew this covenant. It is like going into the water again.

To me it means to follow the example of Jesus, Who Himself was baptized by John the Baptist. After accepting Christ as your Saviour, being baptized is symbolic of washing away sins. You are telling the world publicly that the old you is washed away. The new you will follow Christ.

to be quite honest with you, I was baptized when I was a baby, I grew up believing in the church, I stopped beliving and God and all that religon after my father died. To me, it really doesn't mean anything. The water isn't anything special, It's just getting a babies head wet. It might mean a lot to some, but to me, it means nothing.
