I interviewed with a great company two weeks ago. The person who interviewed me said it would take a week to make their decision. After my interview, I wrote a thank you letter to my interviewer. Last week, I called my interviewer to ask if I was still being considered a candidate, and she sounded really positive. She said the process was taking a little longer than expected. It has been a week since I talked to her. Should I e-mail the HR department and ask them if they intend to hire me?

NO, do not do that. That will make you look desperate for a job and you don't want to come across that way even if you are. Just keep in touch with the person who interviewed you and let her work it from her end. That's her job, let her do it. Be patient, and do not stop seeking employment with other companies. I learned the hard way that sometimes when it takes to long to bring you on board, is because it's not working the way it should. But at the same time, the patient man is always rewarded in the end. Just relax, and wait it out. HR should not receive e-mails from a possible hire. That could turn them off from hiring you. Keep in touch with the young lady that you have established your contact with, leave HR alone. The only time you should talk to HR is when you're coming onboard for your initial orientation, promotions, or if you're being terminated/quitting. Bad juju if you contact HR.

You can call once a week and that's not intrusive. An email is to impersonal for this purpose.

No. Use the phone. Emails tend to vanish.
