I read in answer/Quesdtoin Yahoo that cops/police are mean is that true? I heard that they are mean to the illegal immigration or even legal immigration. Also are they mean to the visitors or even residents? Thank You Matt

No, it is not true. I've lived here for 30 years, and that included my "teen rebel" years in the 70s, when HPD was supposed to be "notorious" for violence. Never happened to me. I never received anything more than courtesy, even when I got pulled over for doing 65 in a 35 zone.

Hell, Houston is a so-called Sanctuary City. The police have their hands tied when it comes to illegals. Legal immigrants have NOTHING to fear here. Illegals committing a felony will be deported, but HPD WON'T pull you over and ask, "Where were ya born, boyyyy?" They're a professional organization.

Where do you read this stuff? Mean to visitors and residents? Some kid probably has an axe to grind because he got pulled over for drifting in the middle of a busy street.

As someone said above, you always read about the burning houses in the paper, but never the millions that don't burn. Our police are professional and good at what they do.

Actually, most of the cops I've ever met around here have been really nice.

I'm not a legal or illegal immigrant, though, but I've never heard of any cops being cruel to immigrants. I read the Houston Chronicle all the time, and they'd be the first people to break stories if there were a lot of incidents about something.

I believe in the diplomatic use of attitude. You are nice until it's time to stop being nice.

A lot of the rude and mean complaints come from people, legal or illegal, because the police are there to deal with something that they did wrong and they don't agree with the cop. That leads to resentment and some people don't know when they should stop going on about it. This is when attitudes change. Because, if you are told something is wrong, arguing about it won't make it right.

That and the people that think that they could never do anything wrong or that what they did was so minor that we are wasting tax dollars not going after the real crooks out there.

Houston's protection has been underrated. This grow to be one team i grow to be happy to no longer face final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. usual, they have extra beneficial sized men than the Lakers do. The protection grow to be so stable that we depended too a lot on the tre's. BQ: Lakers BQ II: i've got self assurance it is going to for the Lakers. they're thinking championship or bust. this could practice the Lakers to no longer be so reliant on the 2d a million/2 surge. BQ III: particular they are going to. i've got self assurance Lamar Odom might have a stable interest there. BQ IV: i think of the Lakers ought to play protection to establish their offense. BQ V: probably a lot. Any interest the Lakers lose will awaken the haters. EDIT: some human beings are not giving credit to the Rocket protection. there is been a super type of point out of the Laker's threes. the reason the Lakers sucked on the three grow to be as a results of Rocket's protection. they especially a lot closed the lane, and compelled us to shot from a good distance.

No, that is not true anymore here in Houston than it is elsewhere. We have more illegal immigration in this town than many other places, so there is consequently more contact with police, but I've never seen one be mean and ugly to anyone.

Houston is known throughout the world for our friendly people and hospitable attitude ... and that includes our law enforcement :)

One quote I heard that you should keep in mind is "The News only reports about a house that is burning". In other words you never hear about the millions of houses that aren't burning. The same is true of the police in this country. You only hear about the rare instance when the officers use excessive force, not about the millions of contacts where everything is appropriate. Especially considering the violent nature of many of the people they deal with, the police, in general, should be commended on their record for use of appropriate force. That said, in any group that large there are going to be a few who abuse the power or lose control occassionally.

Why don't you ask the family of the HPD officer that was killed last year by an illegal alien close to Hobby airport? The cops are just trying to make it through their shift without getting spit on, complained on, or killed. Give them a break unless you are willing to put your life on the line for strangers.

I believe what some term as being "mean" is more appropriately described as being "firm."

When you see an answer on Yahoo...it can be provided by those with or without any clue as to what they're talking about.

You just need to observe for yourself and form your own opinion.

Best wishes.
