Hey I'm 27 y/o and have strep on and off for years. This last month was the worst and I was given a shot at the dr's office since my left tonsil was so swollen and put on amox. again. Now it has been 3 weeks and low and behold my left tonsil is swelling up again! What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?

First thing to check:
toothbrush
how often do you replace, and do you replace every time you get strep?
they sell infrared sanitizers for brush heads in case you own an expensive model, they are about $17.oo at wal mart.
you may want to consider a tonsillectomy, but be warned, if they miss even a small part or if a small part grows back, it can and will develop the same problem again (speaking from experience)
you need to rest adequately
make sure you wash your towels in very hot water, and don't reuse them, especially during or after a bout of strep. Same with sheets, but towels seem more important.
One home remedy I tried and seems to work though I don't know why:
a small amount of yeast mixed into red grape juice (like welches) down it right when you first start to feel the swelling and neck stiffness. I have no idea why but this helps me.
Also, check to see around you house for little germ hot spots, especially maybe a bathroom cup that you reuse, or a mouthwash bottle with a crusty cap.
Good luck and get well soon!

If you are in fact getting Strep throat repeatedly you may be a candidate to having your tonsils removed. Check with your clinician. Also, Amoxicillin is not the proper drug. You should be placed on Penicillin V instead. Find yourself another medical provider.

Try having your tonsils adenoids and uvula removed. I did and haven't had strep since

The meds that the Dr has given you might not be kicking it. Go back to the Dr and have him prescribe you something more potent.

Maybe your immune system is weak? Try getting a lot of sleep and eating right.
