I've always been pretty sickly growing up especially with respiratory colds, pneumonia and bronchitis. Now as an adult I still get four or five bouts of bad colds and bronchitis per year. My boyfriend hardly ever gets sick and we have the same diet, exercise habits. I assume I just have a low immunity but I was wondering if there were ways to help prevent colds. I know all about taking zinc and vitamin tablets. When I get hit with colds and bronchitis, I get hit pretty hard. Some people are able to still go to work and school but I find it pretty hard to leave the sofa. Anyone else out there who has the same problem or has suggestions?

Best prevention is washing your hands a lot and most importantly, keep your hands off of your face. If you pick up germs on your fingers and touch your eyes or nose, you'll most likely come down with a bug.

I had similar problems until I started taking a flu shot every year. There was a study released last year that children who get flu shots have less colds than those who don't get the vaccine. Its worth a try as long as you aren't allergic to eggs.

You may also want to be checked to see if you have undiagnosed asthma.

Since I have immunity problems I also started getting a pneumonia vaccine every five years.

Wash your hands alot and make sure you clean doorknobs, phones, keyboards, and other surfaces during cold and flu season. Buy hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes to use when at work, school or out in public.

Some people just catch colds and infections easier than others, but the best way to prevent a cold is to wash your hands very very well and very very often. My doctor has also told me to take vitamin C to help prevent a cold. From some of the latest studies around, vitamin C won't cure a cold but it's proved to help in the prevention of catching colds for some people. Does your doctor think you have a low immune system? You should talk to him/her for about the frequency of your illnesses and see if he/she has any suggestions.

Aside from a healthy diet, exercise and a good multivitamin, washing hands is the number 1 preventor of catching colds. Wash your hands after being in public places, touching door knobs that 100ds of other people have touched and keep your fingers out of your face. At home or work, wipe down things with a 2% clorox solution.

I'm not sure how to prevent colds, but on the first day of your cold if you take a lot of vitamin C the cold will not last as long. The site in my source talks about the study of vitamin c.

The easiest thing to try is to get vitamin C pills at the store and take it daily. My brother works at a hospital and he takes vitamin C pills and he doesn't catch very many colds. Drinking orange juice helps also....but the pills are your best bet.
good luck!

Yes, this happened to me at one time in my life and the only thing that worked was having flu shots. That gave my body a chance to recover and build up my immunity again. Try pro-biotics as well as your multivitamin. Vit B is important and Vit C can't be stored in the body so you have to take it every day - preferably in the form of fresh citrus fruit.
