You are a wonderful and enlightened person. Well done for a good question. Have a star.
My mum always used to say that eating the crusts would make my hair go curly.
She was wrong about that, but I developed a taste for them anyway.
Not just the crusts around sandwiches but also the end slices from a plain loaf, especially if it's a Farmhouse loaf.
Crusts make wonderful toast because the butter can soak in and not dribble through the other side and be messy. If you cut a slice thick enough you can make a shallow hollow in the dough side and load it with melting butter and thick cut orange marmalade. A perfect breakfast and no drips.
Sainsbury's do a large cob type loaf which is extra crunchy crusty. I think they call it extra-baked or something like that. You'll find them on their fresh bread counters. Absoluteley yummy.
Now you've made me all hungry. Toasted crusts make good supper snacks too.....

When I eat a sandwich, I always eat the crusts first. At home if we have a loaf of bread, I don't usually eat the end crusts on it unless its with soup to dip in. If I'm at uni I eat the crusts because I can't afford to throw away food! I eat the crust on pizza first aswel. There is now that bread being sold that has no crusts for all those fussy people out there!

I usually eat the crusts on bread, unless they are very hard and tough, like they are on day-old "French" bread from most grocery store bakeries. I also think it is a waste to toss the crusts, personally. Of course, we had very little money when I was growing up, so if we had bread we ate every bit of it. My parents would have pitched a fit if we had refused to eat the crust.
Of course, some people who are watching their weight point out that many of the crusts are brushed with butter as they are baking or just after, so the crust retains some fat from the cooking. My thought on that is, if you can't afford the fat calories in the crust, you may not need to eat the bread at all... :)
I have also noticed that quite a few of the breads that advertise high fiber content put "extras" on the crust, such as oats, nuts, etc. If you cut off the crust, you lose much of that fiber content, which negates the benefit of buying it!

I'm with the eat lobby - probably the most nutritious part of the bread - but pizza crusts can get very hard I've lost a few fillings on them in fact I would go so far as to say I haven't yet tasted a shop pizza that I really like - could do with some recommendations

Sorry love, I am one of those people that annoy you, I don't like crusts, I am not much into the crusts, I have some curl in my hair, so the myth about eating the crusts makes your hair curl, is completely wrong.
But with you on your side to say everyone is entitled to like or dislike, I think it goes back to how we ate when we were kids.. I still can't eat beetroot, it's a fascinating subject..
BTW I always eat the things I am not too keen on first and leave the best till last!

Eat, definitely eat. Is not like in the old days when the loaves' crusts were really crusty hard, so why waste it? Doesn't taste anything different after all.
I also find throwing away good food immoral.
As a matter of interest, at last you can buy a loaf in the UK without crust. The strangest thing is that they were doing that already in Spain in the late 80's. and that's not even their everyday kind of bread.

it really depends on who made the pizza.
I've usually been ok with bread and pizza crusts but for some reason I don't like pie crusts... I give them to someone else at the table, if they want them, and if they are complaining about wasted food.

It really annoys me too! If I'm around people I know I often ask them to tear the crust off so I can eat it :) . When people are starving in the world, it seems like such a waste. At least feed the birds.

It depends on the type of bread. White bread I'll trash becuase white bread and its crusts arent the best sort of breakd to eat. Sometimes I like something chewy, so I'll eat some rye. As for pizza crusts - i dip them in tomatoe sauce.
