How to relieve a head cold?

Question

I have had a head cold for the past 3 days, are there any remedies that can be used to relieve the pain. I have seriously gone through a box of tissues today. My nose just seems to be so blocked that I cant breath. Any help would be great. Thanks

My Grandfather recommended that you lay on your back on your bed..with head hanging over the side.. and pour salt water up your nose...

It probably won't cure your cold, but then again you won't think about it as much afterwards....
