As Obviousman seems to be on vacation or something for the last few days...here is HIS answer from several months ago:

Seems like some of us are geographically challenged. You'll notice that some are actually in LA County. BTW, Pismo Beach is in San Luis Obispo County, and the city beach does not allow campfires. OK, from north to south:

1. Will Rogers State Beach- LA County
2. Mother's Beach (Marina Del Rey)-LA County
3. Dockweiler Beach- LA County
4. Cabrillo Beach- LA County
5. Bolsa Chica State Beach- Orange County
6. Huntington State Beach- Orange County
7. Corona Del Mar- Orange County
8. Doheney State Beach, but only if you get a beachfront campsite, and it can't be a huge bonfire- Orange County

Of these, Bolsa Chica is my favorite. Corona would be my favorite, but the pits are too crowded and close together, and the parking lot is too small.
