Actually, the museum is well worth seeing. Plus, you can dial grandpop into a computer program, and maybe see his entry. Makes for a nice day between that and the Statue of Liberty, but as noted, we don't do immigrants there any more. Don't get that many on ships these days anyway.

It's a fantastic museum. It's not a port of entry any longer, but it is open for visitors. If you are ever in NYC, it is really worth seeing. My great-great grandparents came through Ellis Island from Russia, so going there was a great moment of very personal family history for me.

I have been to Ellis Island. Its not really that pretty. But being there is calming to me. IT just reminds me of what those people must have felt like reaching the island and seeing the Statue of Liberty!

It is a national historic park, just like Alcatraz. It is Not an immigration port of entry anymore.

It's now a museum. They no longer use it to process immigrants, but it's not exactly closed, either.
