Paranoia is only a result of the plant being illegal. If not illegal, no paranoia would occur. 2nd, it is a known fact that you can not overdose on marijuana. You would have to smoke 1500 pounds, in 15 minutes, to overdose. And at that point, its not the pot that kills you, its all that sweet cookie dough. Alcohol makes idiots want to go do things, where marijuana makes people want to sit around, and do nothing. Here's a story. Buddy gets arrested in las vegas for marijuana, which is a big fine and up to a year in prison there. But isnt this the same place that lets you drink till you puke, get a hooker, and gamble. Now my buddy is getting arrested for wanting to go to his room, eat a snickers, and fall asleep watching americas funniest home videos. It's absurd. So congrats to the drunken gambling whore bangers, you're safe. Take a look at the big picture.

I am of the belief that it's because there is no way actually definatively test a person to see if they are currently under the influence.
With alcohol, your body processes it fairly quickly, so if they do a blood or urine test and detect alcohol, then you have been drinking very recently.
With pot, it's in your system for months. The only thing they could do is a field sobriety test, but I have seen people pass these when they are totally ripped (the whole alphabet backwards, blah, blah, blah).
Because of this, DUI type laws would not be very enforceble. It would also be a problem for workers comp and stuff like that.
If there was a way to tell how long ago a person had smoked, it would be simple enough to regulate just like alchol, but no one has found it yet, so that's a big no go.

Alcohol is a deeply entrenched lobby with roots in America's failed experiment in Prohibition, which turned thugs, romanticized as "gangsters" into multimillionaires. Those families sent their rich children to Harvard and Yale and their sons became today's ruling class in business and government.
Marijiuana is easily grown, provides a similar function in everyday life, and could easily replace alcohol in society, especially among populations that traditionally have used the plant for it's relaxing qualities, such as Hispanics, Blacks and Native American Indians. Race is very much part of the equation. Even a History Channel documentary on pot will note this very clearly in the evolution of drug control laws.
If the average Jose Worker goes home and rolls a legal blunt instead of stopping and buying a 12 pack and some cigarettes, then two huge industries are taking a hit. (Three if you count convenience stores.)

i ask myself this daily. marijuana is a plant that doesn't need to be altered in anyway to use, yet look at the process alcohol goes through before it can be drank. how many marijuana overdoses are there on record? none. you can't even count the amount of alcohol od's there are a year, let alone on record. people get drunk & start fights, people get high & get the munchies. it will never make sense. i think the government is making $$ off of it 2 times having it illegal-for the fines they get from the people that were busted, and then the resale when they turn around & sell what they confiscated.

That's a good question. Marijuana prohibition is just like the alcohol prohibition (1920-1933) in the USA and other countries.. it's just a stupid law that the politicians pulled out ouf their hats because they have nothing better to do, and trying to play Big Brother with the people. It costs taxpayer money to try to crack down on victimless crimes. If you let the government do what they want, this is what you get.. stupid laws that makes no sense and waste taxpayer money.

Basically it's government wanting to control everything. So when they get something they can't control, like Marijuana, they try to make it look way worse then it really is. Millions of people die every year from alcohol related incidents. No one has ever died from Marijuana.

There's actually a simple answer to your question. If people drink alcohol in moderation and responsibly, it is a harmless substance. However, marijuana is dangerous and has seriously negative health effects whether it is used in small amounts or often.
People who smoke pot think it's no big deal but it's actually seriously unhealthy.

I really can't tell you why it is still illegal today all of the studies that say how evil weed is have no scientific basis what so ever.
Most people opinions about weed are made from what they have seen on tv or heard on the news.

Because the best stuff is grown in South America, and there's no money in it for the rich white people that currently run the country.
