Yes, the problem is that people automatically think it an obligation for people to do things for them on their birthday. Anything that anybody even your parents do for you is out of love and appreciation of you. Just put it like this its not expected, but it would not hurt to send a thank you note to your mother. Plus the slight sign of appreciation goes a long way especially with parents.

I've heard of this and think it's a nice idea. I'm a single mother and my daughter used to give me a card on Father's day, because I was not only her mother, but did all the things a father would do to. You could tell your mother how much you love and appreciate her for giving you life.

I thought I was the only person that did that, well I don't send her a card, I call her up and wish her a happy birthday. She says, it's your birthday, and I say yeah but you did all the work. This has been going on for about 30 years,LOL!!!!!!!!

There are several cultures in which that is the correct etiquettes for a birthday. A mother would be insulted if she was not thanked.

If you want to do it, it would be a nice surprise.

No, you should sent her a gift that you know she would like, and a hand-written letter in which you wish her a happy birthday and thank her for being such a wonderful mother to you. Commercial cards are sent by the unimaginative.

If you want to be really creepy, by all means go ahead.

Why not just send a hand-written note instead, telling her how much you appreciate her?
