Love is:
A deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness. Compassion; with no thought for a reward:
Blessings!

Love is the state of mind where you place the needs and desires of others on par, or above those of your own. You care deeply about others and would not harm them so as to violate their love and trust in you.
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
1 Corinthians 13:1 ¶Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4 ¶Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8 ¶Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
Charity = love.

Love is a constellation of emotions and experiences related to a sense of strong affection or profound oneness.[1] The meaning of love varies relative to context. Romantic love is seen as an ineffable feeling of intense attraction shared in passionate or intimate attraction and intimate interpersonal and sexual relationships.[2] Though often linked to personal relations, love is often given a broader signification, a love of humanity, of nature, with life itself, or a oneness with the Universe, a universal love or karma. Love can also be construed as Platonic love,[3] religious love,[4] familial love, and, more casually, great affection for anything considered strongly pleasurable, desirable, or preferred, to include activities and foods.[5][2] This diverse range of meanings in the singular word love is often contrasted with the plurality of Greek words for love, reflecting the concept's depth, versatility, and complexity.

Love is the same for believers as well as non-believers to begin with.
What happens afterwards depends on the beliefs or absence of beliefs on the part of the lovers.

"Love" happens when two, highly-compatible people randomly meet one another. They enjoy each others company so much that they develop an infatuation in a sense, they have to be with this person.
That's what I believe. Everything is a random chance; none of it is "meant to be." No divine intervention.

It is the opposite of hate and selfishness.
After several generations of food shortages, one African tribe became so self-centered while foraging for food, it can not remember one kind event done for another.
Love must be nourished because if it is not received or reciprocated, it will wane; however, God's love is not conditional. That love is foreign to our natures, but He gives it to us--that is why we deprive selves to give to the mission field--loving and working for the unlovely.
That same self-sacrificing love led God to allow His Son to suffer an ignominious death for those who hated them--that is AGAPE love, and is expressed at Calvary.
Jesus is the Messiah, that is why He gave us a Bible code to prove it. See http://abiblecode.tripod.com

Hey I seen a lot of people cry and had everything taken from them followed with the words "But I thought she loved me!"
Love is an emotion that can cause you to make mistakes and allow others to take advantage of you. And I ain't no punk.
