I went to the psychiatrist at my university in regards to ADD/ADHD symptoms that I have experienced my entire life. After giving him a pretty thorough reasoning as to why I believed I have the symptoms (textbook Type 2-Inattentive ADD), he pretty much said everything he could to disprove it. I was never assessed with ADD as a child because of my high grades in elementary school, but I was hyperactive and a distraction to other children and it became more apparent throughout high school. It is not just a problem with school, but it also seems to effect my way of life, especially with my relationships to people and work. Anyways, he went on to talk about if I had problems with anxiety and stress and I did tell him that I tend to worry alot and going through some stressful situations and he tried to pinpoint my problem to that, instead of my problems with attention. I have another meeting with him soon and need to know what I should say to make sure he knows that ADD is the main problem.

Most psychiatrists, when it comes to adult ADHD, will think you are just drug seeking since ADHD neds are stimulants. Unless you have established ADD or ADHD as a child, it would have to be a rather severe form before a psychiatrist will give you any mends as an adult. Drink plenty of coffee and other caffeeinated drinks. They will help you calm down and help you concentrate.

wow the first thing psychologists should know is that they never know the answers. you shouldn't have a doctor who is trying to proove that he thinks he knows whats wrong with you. but he could have just been trying to calm you down, maybe you two just don't mix very well. you should ask to be reffered to someone else. a client should feel comfortable after their first meeting with a therapist, not more stressed.
