Is there any real world basis for this "if God is for us who can be against us" verbiage coming out of Hamas?

Do people really think like that in the modern world, accessing their situations by rote faith instead if flexible reason?

Source:

"We have God at our side and God is greater than Israel and America," said Abu Ahmed, spokesman of the Islamic Jihad armed wing, which claimed joint responsibility for last week's rocket attack. "We will face them with death," he told Reuters.

No. God is a God of love, not death.

We need to take God's side. He definitely is greater than Israel and America, but he explicitly promised He would preserve a remnant of Israel.

He also promised He would restore Israel as a nation (1948), and that the last great battle would take place in Israel (or Palestine if you prefer).

I would not bet against God being for Israel.

There is often an element of truth in lies. If I were a Muslim extremist, I would read the Old Testament of the Bible closely, to see what God will and will not allow.

God does not take sides...if he did take sides, it would likely be with the children of Israel, however as a Christian I believe the new covenant with his people removed God from taking sides. I do agree that God is greater than Israel and America. Before we get too righteous in ascribing the statement to Abu Ahmed, I have seen and heard many Americans make the exact same statement. Its just as foolish to hear it from an American or from anyone for that matter. I suspect George Bush himself feels that "God is for us"; like its some kind of football game. Puhleeeeze!!!

The God of Muslims, Christians and Jews is the SAME God. Sheesh. It is the God of Abraham.

The Jews are God's chosen people, according to the Bible. Muslims and Christians need to realize that.

But then who is the God of the Hindus, or the Buddhists? Will this be a war of the Gods? All the Gods claim they created the earth & its inhabitants, so I guess we should just live in peace down here and let the Gods fight it out.

He is as misguided in his faith as other Christians and Jews are who claim that their God is the right God and their way is the only way.

Abraham is considered the father of all three religions, and if you trace his lineage back you'll understand that all three religions worship the same God. So how could a dad choose a favorite between his children?

It's incomprehensible. Faith in God, through Jesus, through Mohammed, or your favorite Jewish rabbi are all acceptable to God.

There can only be one God, and he seeks a personal relationship with you. Don't get caught up in the religious trappings that man has cloaked the rest of us in.

I do agree that if God is with you, who can be against you etc.

However, that also goes in paraphrase of meaning--- do they know God? I seriously doubt the Islamic Jihad is worshipping God of the universe. They have created their own god to justify their hate crimes and beliefs.

Does America have God, I don't believe they do either.

severe-high quality oblique rant. yet to maintain consistent with the Y!A TOS i think I might desire to respond to. i don't be attentive to whose element God is on or if God even particularly cares because of the fact that his attitude is plenty greater advantageous than ours. yet while he's on a facet, I also have a feeling he isn't rooting for people who objective harmless women human beings and young ones. I guess he isn't rooting for people who might enslave entire civilizations, enforcing their tyranny and their cruel style of oppression. I also have a feeling, lower back, if he's on every physique's element, he's on the element of those giving their time, efforts and now and lower back their lives protecting harmless adult men, women human beings and young ones and bringing freedom to the international. yet then, i need to be incorrect. consistent with probability he/she/it particularly is one evil SOB. nevertheless, I doubt it.

God's spirit indwells HIS people. It is written: Do not fear the ones who can kill the body; Fear He who has the power to destroy the body and the soul. God's plan is not about Israel or America, it is about the world. It is written: For God so loved the world.....

your getting this from the same type of people who believe that God wants them to kill people in His name. the verse "If God is with us, then who can be against us" (paraphrased is in both the Bible, Torah, and the koran. Its an Old Testament verse, cant remember who said it, either Moses, Joshua, David, Daniel, or one of the prophets.

Time will tell what side God is helping. After the 1967 war it looks like God is more on Israel's side....

America is in the same boat as Israel.
