If it is a hunting gun and you have a hunting license, you can buy it in the state which issued the hunting license.

You will have to buy from a private citizen. A gun dealer will not sell to anyone who cannot prove residence in his state. Check the want ads in the area of the states you will be visiting or,if you're lucky, you could find a gun show with some private parties selling. I never buy from a dealer. The government has no business knowing if I'm buying a gun.

It depends on your state. In Canada citiizens are permitted to own muzzleloaders. I would call the gunshop that you would be looking to buy it from within the states, or a local law enforcement agency. The other tip I would NOT recomend as it is illegal according to the ATF. Is to have a friend who is a US citizen purchase the weapon for himself and then let you borrow it.
