This is what my pediatrician recommended to me for drinking schedule for my daughter (19mths). One cup of juice a day- no matter how you break it up- 1/2 in morning 1/2 in afternoon if you want. Milk only at meals. All other times she is thirsty-water. If she is truly thirsty, she will drink it. If she isn't, then she just wants the juice for the sweetness. It worked for me. My daughter drinks the water when she is thirsty. I can't think of anything else that would work as far as lower calories. The sugar is what is doing it. Best of luck to you!

She really should only be drinking milk with meals, up to 16 oz. a day, juice as a treat, and water the rest of the time.
Don't expect her to go cold turkey, but start mixing 1/4 water with 3/4 of juice or kool aid, then go to 1/2 and 1/2, etc. Do this over a month and she should get used to it.
Flavored water is junk, and crystal light has too many chemicals for a small child.

I would stick to milk at meal times and then in between give her a cup of water. If she gets thirsty enough then she will drink it. If not then she will wait for the next meal to get some milk. It might take a bit for her to get used to the water but she will. She is just used to having the sugar in her drinks so she doesn't like the bland taste of water. It took me awhile to get my niece to drink plain water too but she loves it now.
With my niece(2 1/2), I give her milk at breakfast, lunch and dinner. She gets either juice or water for snacks and if she wants anything inbetween meals than she gets water. She only gets one cup of juice a day and her juice is Juicy Juice. She has never had Kool Aid. Every once in awhile she will drink some V8 Juice also.

wow that is a lot of milk, she only needs 3 servings of milk a day and can get that in cheese and yogurt as well as milk.
she shouldn't be getting much kool aid at all. and juice has tons of sugar(yes it is natural, but it is the same once in the body as any other sugar) and she should only be getting one cup a day diluted.
water is pretty much it. if you quit giving her so much other stuff to drink she would probably drink water better... i mean seriously if someone was always giving me kool aid, juice and milk i probably would refuse the water also!

Try flavoring the water... Kool-aide is definatly a bad idea, there is so much sugar in there. Youcould also try cutting the juices with water. Mix about 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup juice. We buy the frozen juices for my daughter, the kind you mix yourself, and they are supposed to make about 1/2 a gallon, but we make a whole gallon with one can. The flavor is still there, but she isn't getting the full amount of sugar and what not. But definatly try flavored water. Good Luck!

Give her water. If she's truly thirsty, she'll drink it. You don't want to give her too much milk, either. They suggest 8 oz a day. That said, 1 gallon should last you the entire week for her. If you're that worried, get some crystal light and mix it with her water to give it some flavor. Slowly decrease the amount you mix in and eventually she'll be drinking water only.

Give her water your daughter will eventually lose that stomach, when she becomes more active. At least she is healthy and is drinking milk which will give her strong bones. She is probably getting a stomach from the sugar products more than the milk.

Have you tried crystal lite? My daughter is a huge fan. You might also talk to your doctor about putting her on skim milk. When my daughter started to gain extra weight our doctor put her on skim milk (no more than 16 ozs a day) and took away all juice (even natural fruit juice that can make a child gain weight). It worked wonders.

this is just a suggestion but start watering down her juice. eventually put more and more water in it and gradually work down to just water. i would stop the kool aid altogether. she isnt even 2 and she is craving all that sugar.

juicy juice is good. V8 Splash. Try water with a little bit of flavor (use strawberries, squeeze lemon or oranges) whatever fruit she likes.
Remember, she's only a year and a half so she's going to have a little bit of a belly.
