Alan Watts once made a joke about fervent atheists. He said their motto was "There is no God, and I am his prophet." ;-)
Yeah, there are fanatics in every walk of life. But I don't preach at anyone. My beliefs are my own, and while I enjoy sharing them when asked or provoked, I couldn't care less if you end up agreeing with me. I think this holds true for most nonbelievers -- because the whole point is freedom *from* religion. That's not something you go around preaching about. It's just something you live.
Is Dawkins really that provocative to some people? I hardly think he's standing on street corners handing out ahteist pamphlets.

sigh...
teaching logic and proselytizing religion are two different things- on top of that, I won't go out of my way to talk about it. I usually respond to people trying to sell me a little Jesus with it... any time I so much as ADMIT to being an atheist, I'm met with negative response. Then after conversing with the moron and handing their head back to them, I usually finish my beer and find another bar that isn't full of pushy rednecks... there are a lot of them here.
When responding to public acts of ridicule... in most cases by members of the Lutheran church in my area (for some reason I find the Catholics far more respectful here... don't know why) I will be fairly vocal about expressing my views... and my discontent with their religion.
In 95% of the cases when I discuss this outside of yahoo answers and the occasional blog- I am defending my position from a pretentious Christian.

No, Richard Dawkins simply states the facts of his and others research (he is a scientist and a writer you know). His end is to state the facts (evolution for example) not to convince the other person of it, you should really see more of videos (Root of all Evil, interviews...), which in any case there's nothing to do, that's his opinion just as you have yours.

Yes, I preach the dogma that morals should not be legislated - I'm even getting tired of me hearing myself think it.
But it be a needed thing me bucko, as scallywags should not have too live by other's morality in things that don't harm individuals or societies. Yarrr be good to yer mates and yer ship.

No. As an Atheist I do not believe in god(s). What could I possibly have to 'preach' about?

Richard Dawkins doesn't proselytise. He merely tells idiots to stop talking rot and to come up with some decent arguments to back up their ideas.

We don't preach anything. The reason I, for one am so hard on religion is because it is killing our country and the world. I dont need a backwards, ancient, messed with, altered book to try and prove it...Turn on your television.
