thong yes, makeup in moderation no. Thong should not even be in her vocabulary, let alone her pants!! Compact powder, coloured lip gloss, maybe lightly used eye shadow, that's at most what a 12 year old should wear, and not daily!

Yes! There was an article in our newspaper the other day about thong underwear contributing to infertility. The narrow string of the thong slides back and forth more easily than traditional underwear moving bacteria from the rectum to the vagina. Girls can develop infections from this bacteria without realizing it, and particularly in young girls who do not yet go for regular gynecological exams it may wind up going undiagnosed for a very long period of time. The result can be infertilitly later in life when they are ready to have a child.
There are also many other reasons why thong underwear is not appropriate for a 12 year old, such as not needing to wear sexually provocative clothing at such a young age. But, certainly, the thought of infertility should outshadow even those.

I have an almost 12 year old daughter (Oct she will be 12), and I cant imagine allowing her to wear thongs. What is the reason to wear a thong at that age? Kids grow up too fast anyways!
As for makeup, I dont let her wear makeup either, maybe some lip gloss, in moderation. Again, whats the reason for a child to wear make-up?
Just explain to her that she doesnt need makeup because she has such pretty skin and a pretty face, she shouldnt cover it up. As for the thong.....explain that they are the most uncomfortable thing to wear in the world!!! :) Good luck!

I personally think it is, but I know a lot of girls are allowed to at that age, so it causes teasing. The things that children that age tease about is awful. I know my little sister had to go get a bra before she had any breast really because kids made fun of her and her nipples were starting to show. Could be the same with the thong, if it is panty lines or something. I personally don't see a thong as a sexual thing, I find them more comfortable and they help avoid panty lines. I personally think that those booty shorts are much sexier.
As far as make up, I would keep it to a minimum, like just some mascara. That is pretty much all I wear most of the time now and I'm 25. : )
If this is not your child though, then really it is not your business, unless you were asked. Each parent needs to do what they think is right.

A bra? Defintely not too young, especially if she's developing at all! She should be wearing a bra by age 12!!!
Thong? Eh, my take is it's underwear. If it's comfortable for her AND she's not wearing such low rise jeans that everyone can see the back of it, this isn't something to stress over.
Makeup? Too young....for MOST makeup. I had such white blond eyelashes growing up that my mom let me start wearing brown mascara in 5th grade so I didn't look like I had no eyelashes. A little tinted lipgloss would be ok as well, but foundation, blush, eyeshadow, lipstick she's too young for.

I think she's way too young for a thong. Makeup is OK, within reason. My niece is also 12, and is just starting to wear makeup - mostly lip gloss, light eye shadow, etc. - nothing too extreme. I think that's OK. If she's putting on thongs and fishnets with dark eyeshadow and eyeliner, it may be time to have a talk with her about how she presents herself. It's questions like these that make me glad I have a boy!

Too young to be wearing a thong EVER. Too young to be wearing makeup on a regular basis - for a special occasion maybe, but really, plastering your face in chemicals on a daily basis at 12? Not good for your skin At All. She's just asking to have an awful time with acne when she hits puberty properly.

A little make up no, the thong yes!!
An adult may not want pantylines but a thong is a sexual thing in my eyes and in most young boys eyes. I hope my daughters never wear them but they would have to be a LOT older than 12.
I would let me girls wear lip gloss, maybe powder and mascara at that age, not sure of the mascara though. Or maybe a little glitter make up.

The main reason for a thong is to prevent "panty lines" and at 12 that should not be on her mind (as I'm sure its probably not). I would say no to both make up and a thong personally. I have seen a lot of kids that age in make up though but for the most part I think its a shame. little kids should be kids!

When I saw this the first thing I thought was ewww. To me 12 is too young for both. I really hate to think of a 12 yr old in a thong. It just seems very wrong. I think it's too young for both.

Yes, at 12 I didn't even know what a thong was. I would say some makeup is ok, but no a lot.
