Because good sleep restores us. When we're fatigued we may not think clearly and things seem harder.
My favorite few minutes of the day is when I first wake up and stretch in bed.
I'm glad it works for you too!

There was a show on NOVA recently that detailed how the brain uses sleep and dreams to play over a stressful scenario in multiple ways to come up with better solutions. To summarize, it said that while awake, the brain is bombarded with tons of new input each day, some of it overloads the delicate circuitry of the brain like a computer might get jammed up from punching too many keys all at once. Given the brain a shut down time, is basically like defragging your harddrive, putting bits of information in the right place for easy retrieval(memory) later.
Long before the days of cat scans and MRI's people would say "let me sleep on it" and by doing so helped to avoid rash decisions.

You're absolutely right. It's the same for me; I feel better when I've gotten some sleep. I think it's because we've given our bodies and minds a chance to relax and unwind a little bit. Since we've rested, we can look at things from a fresher perspective when we're dealing with a problem. When it deals with a mild physical ailment, sleep allows our nerves and muscles to relax and rejuvenate. I think that's pretty cool.

Fatigue can make you irrational. A good nights sleep can definitely give you a better perspective. I know for me if I have stress, pain or worry that when I sleep not only am I restoring my body, but my brain works out my problems in my dreams. I
always remember my dreams and somehow I find my answers in my dreams and with a restored body it is easier to face my challenges.
