Hi AJ, you can try browsing this site for tablature/chords..
http://www.911tabs.com/link/?3658373

and then take a tour round this site for techniques and easy lessons. You may pick up a few tips.
http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/

Both url's come in handy for future ref, so save them in your fave's. Struggling to find a tune may make the whole experience become tedious, so browsing related sites like these will keep up your interest until you decide on the tune.

The last hour of "concentration" before winding down for bedtime, is usually spent studying these sites and making horrible noises keeping the cat awake...but I'm picking up tips as I go along and learning without much effort. You have to remember to keep it fun

Country songs are a good starting point because they are structured and easy. Me n Bobby Magee is a good one. Old CCR is also fun and easy - Proud Mary for example.

I love Beatles music but I actually find that more challenging because they use odd keys and time signatures. They were actually quite advanced musicians for their time and genre. (try Norweigan Wood or Yesterday - they sound nice but are far from simple)

There are literally thousands of three chord songs out there. Its all a matter of taste. There are lots of easy punk songs as well as spirituals (Amazing Grace is easy to play but you gotta be in the right mood for it)

As for the inspiration...perhaps choose songs which you somewhat decide to check because of the fact you have the difficulty-free chords down already. this manner it is not any longer each and all of the uninteresting beginner songs. choose a song you like and merely prepare it till you get it down. After some songs you will have discovered so plenty greater, and your palms gets greater used to it. and that i don't comprehend how plenty you have discovered already, yet perhaps p.c.. up a dvd on getting to know a thank you to play guitar a number of them are rather stable. I tried to teach myself. I taugt myself the chords last. Teach yourself the frets etc, and I would advise doing grade pieces. Go very slowly and as you feel more confident, go faster,

Then try Avril Lavigne Skater Boy, Very Easy.
