mexican style chicken soup (caldo) with lots of hot sauce and squeeze lemon in there too. you may want to eat this at home because if you do it right when your sick it makes you sweat and your nose runs like crazy.

None other than the nutritious Kotosoupa or Greek Egg & Lemon Soup. A hearty soup which has chicken bits, carrot, onion, egg and lemon juice, it is the ideal soup for anyone coming down with flu or cold.

That sounds lovely. Traditionally, you would want to simmer a chicken in water and boullion or broth, with a lot of fresh garlic and onion, other herbs and spices you like, some lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste, and carrots and celery. Add noodles or rice or orzo in the last 20 min. of cooking. Very soothing, and besides the healing powers of garlic and onions, there is some component in the bone marrow of chickens that is actually healing when you consume it, I don't remember what exactly it was, but that's why chicken soup works to make you better.

Also, I second the hot and sour soup mentioned above! I crave it when I'm sick, and it makes me feel sooo much better. Mmmm.

Indeed! Avgolemono (it's chicken soup with lemon, isn't it?) is really good in such cases plus it tastes fantastic! My Greek friend's mom cooks it quite often and I really like it!

It has been known for many years that garlic acts as an antibiotic and will help cure colds. It's not what kind of soup, it't the amount of garlic you use in it. If you like chicken soup, fine, just put lots of garlic in it. If you prefer beef, do the same. You can even eat spaghetti, with extra garlic added. If you can tollerate the taste, I've read that eating a raw clove of garlic in a piece of bread, works wonders. Try whatever you like, but it has to have lots, of garlic.

peasant soup is always good for a cold and easy to make, too. the only big thing is you need to plain roasted chicken. if you don't want to roast it yourself, you can buy a whole roasted chicken at the grocery and peel of the skin, and just use the breasts. boil about 4-6 cups of water. add chicken boullion and egg noodles, some mushrooms, and thin slices of carrot and celery. simmer until veg is soft, maybe 10-15 minutes. add chicken breasts, torn up into pieces, and some fresh whole rosemary to the pot. bring up to a boil and simmer for about 6 more minutes. ladle into a bowl, close your eyes and smell the goodness! then eat it all and feel better. p.s. it may need some salt and pepper. enjoy!

Depends on your memories of your happy childhood and what your mamma fed you to ensure you were warm and comfy. In other words, it's psychologically healing.

I remember Campbell's Chicken Noodle when I was a wee lassie and though I wouldn't ordinarily touch the stuff, it's healing to me when I've got the sniffles.

I swear by hot and sour soup with tofu. It's not just the chicken broth, but tons of veggies and protein. And I swear it always cures my colds or sinus infections.

My first suggestion would be an old fashioned chicken veggie soup until I look up hot to make your Greek soup.
What a delicious recipe, Thanks.
