I've seen multiple posts saying that it is wrong for Christians to worship on Sunday, and that the Catholic Church changed the Sabbath to Sunday in the 4th century. My question is: Do you guys bother to actually read the Bible, or confirm those anti-Catholic ramblings? There are two BIG things wrong with these accusations:

1. The Catholic Church specifically says that Sunday is NOT the Sabbath. Section 2175 of the Catechism states: "Sunday is expressly distinguished from the sabbath which it follows chronologically every week". Sunday is the "Lord's Day", the first day of the week, and the day that Christ rose from the dead.
(source: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt1art3.htm#2174 )

2. Scriptures show that Sunday was the day for the breaking of the bread (i.e. communion): Acts 20:7, for example, says: "On the first day of the week we came together to break bread." (source: Bible)

It would probably be wise to verify information before spreading around untruths, lest you show your ignorance. Why do most people get their information about the Catholic Church from ANTI-Catholic sources? If I want to find out about the Democrats, am I going to go to a Republican website for my information? Not too smart. The Catholic Catechism is online for all to see (at: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/entiretoc1.htm ). A little research can go a long way.
Comments anyone?

Oh: One other thing: The commandment about the Sabbath is part of the covenant God established with Moses. We are not under that covenant. Christ established a NEW covenant. and He fulfilled the law. Now, we are to follow the MEANING of the commandments, no the "letter".

Crusader, do you need to study the history of your religion somewhere other than the works written by your religion. If I am going to get at the truth about any given subject or orgainization, am i going to just study that organaization's propanganda or am I going to research from a wide variety of sources? You need to broaden your worldview.

Sunday is not the Christian Sabbath. There is absolutely no Biblical justification for Sunday being a day of worship. Sunday was taken from paganism. Sunday worship was introduced by the apostate church (Catholic) of Rome under the rulership of the Roman Emperor Constantine. Constantine was a worshiper of Mithra the Sun God and never repented of it. All who worship on Sunday are sharing in the worship of this false god. Deuteronomy 12:30-31.

The idea that the resurrection was on a Sunday is also false and stems from a lack of knowledge of the Biblical Holy Days, which was supressed by the Catholic church. Read the Passion story in the Gospels, there were TWO Sabbaths that week. Why?

Folks, Hebrews 4, read it carefully, it mentions the 7th day, not the first day, as the sancified day of rest. Please look at your calender and see which day is which.

Almost all "christian" churches agree that the 10 Commandments are valid........except for the 4th. Few realize that the 4th Commandment is a reflection back to Creation when the very first thing God made holy was the SABBATH. Thus the Sabbath pre-existed the Siani Covenant! Read Genesis. Read Matthew 5:17-19, what is Christ talking about? Matthew 5:17-19 is in there for our benefit. This is the Messiah, the Savior of the world talking. He did not intend for a single Law of God to be rescinded by His sacrifice for those who broke that Law.

Why is the Law important? Romans 3:20, 7:7, and others
What is sin? 1John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
What happens to sinners? Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death....
Because we are under grace, and remember that the above verses define sin and the penalty for it, are we free to do as we wish? Romans 6:15

What is the sign of the True Church, the Elect, at the end of the age?

Revelations 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Lets keep it simple, forget for a moment that there are aproximately 613 Commandments in the Torah and that Yashua says that the least of them has not passed away {Again, read Matthew 5:17-19 and really think about what is being said}, there still remains the 10. Lets suppose (falliciously) that all that there are, are the 10. Are Christians required to keep them? Please study the following verses. Will you take the plain word of the Apostles of the Christ and the Christ Himself over the false teachings of your chruches?

Rev 22:14, Rev 12:17, 1 John 5:2-3, 1Jo 2:3-4, 1 John 3:4, 1 Corinthians 7:19, John 15:10, Mark 7:7, Matthew 5:19.

The 4th Commandment states:

Exodus 20:8 Keep in memory the Sabbath and let it be a holy day.9 On six days do all your work: 10 But the SEVENTH day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; on that day you are to do no work, you or your son or your daughter, your man-servant or your woman-servant, your cattle or the man from a strange country who is living among you: 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and everything in them, and he took his rest on the seventh day: for this reason the Lord has given his blessing to the seventh day and made it holy.

The Sabbath was the first thing God created to be Holy. What God has made Holy, no man has the right to change. It was Holy before Sinai, it was made for man when man was made {Mark 2:27, and others)

CATHOLICISM ANSWERS

Roman Catholics acknowledge that the change of the Sabbath was made by their church, and declare that Protestants by observing the Sunday are recognizing her power. In the Catholic Catechism, in answer to a question as to the day to be observed in obedience to the fourth commandment, this statement is made:

"During the old law, Saturday was the day sanctified; but the church, instructed by Jesus Christ, and directed by the Spirit of God, has substituted Sunday for Saturday; so now we sanctify the first, not the seventh day. Sunday means, and now is, the day of the Lord."

Question: Have you any other way of proving that the Catholic Church has power to institute festivals of precept (to command holy days)?

Answer: "Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her: she could not have substituted the ovservance of Sunday the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority." Stephan Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism, page 176.

"Reason and common sense demand the acceptance of one or the other of these alternatives: either Protestantism and the keeping holy of Saturday, or Catholicity and the keeping holy of Sunday." The Catholic Mirror, Dec.23,1893.

"God simply gave His (Catholic) Church the power to set aside whatever day or days, she would deem suitable as Holy Days. The Church chose Sunday, the first day of the week, and in the course of time added other days." Vincent J, Kelly, Forbidden Sunday and Feast Day Occupations, page 2.

"If Protestants would follow the Bible, they should worship God on the Sabbath Day. In keeping the Sunday they are following a law of the Catholic Church." Albert Smith, Chancellor of the Arcdiocese of Baltimore, replying for the Cardinal in a letter, Feb.10,1920.

We could go and on!

The Scriptures had predicted this change:

"He (the pope) shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints of the Most High, and shall intend to change times and law." Daniel 7:25.

Respectfully, there is no where in the bible that says the "Lord's day" is Sunday. It does say that Jesus is "Lord of the Sabbath". Getting together to break bread on Sunday could just as well mean they got together to eat a meal. You are reading a lot into that text to say it refers to communion.

edit: The new covenant is not about doing away with the law. It is about fulfilling the law in our lives. You have to decide whether or not it includes the 4th commandment.

Hebrews 8:10
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

I agree with you wholeheartedly, with the exception of one minor detail regarding Acts 20:7 and this specifically being a communion, seeing as the phrase easily could mean they had come together to have their a meal together as a group. Table fellowship over meals was an important thing then, and the inclusion of Gentiles in table fellowship.

I also have to ask, why not refer to yourself as a defender of God or the Faith?

And as an aside, quite a number of Catholic clergy and scholars have indeed declared the Catholic church "changed" the day, but never offer any evidence it happened. So their claims frankly were baseless, and even moreso with what you have brought out.

I for one appreciate your pointing this out.

What I have always said it that the Catholic church didn't change the day of worship from sat. to sun..
That is an Adventist Theory to help with their deceptional teachings.Christians had separated themselves from the Jewish customs concerning the Sabbath, and excepted the fact that Jesus was Lord of the Sabbath. They realized that this commandment wasn't pointing them to a day that needed to be observed, but rather to Christ who they could find a rest in.How could a day of sleep and slumber make one Holy?
Now here is the rest that will provide us with what God had intended the Sabbath commandment to do.This is what that commandment was pointing to.

Mat 11:28 "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you [rest].
Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall [find rest unto your souls].
Mat 11:30 For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light."

I am not Catholic and don't always agree with their doctrines, but the only thing Constantine done was affirm what was already being practiced among Christians.

Does Sunday worship or sabbath worship only make you a Christian. Get out of the box and look at the whole picture. It takes a relationship with God not a Sabbath or Sunday morning experience. God is up front and personal. You can never be serious enough when it comes to the word of God.
The Bible does not say Sunday. it says first day of the week. But Jesus said man was not made for the Sabbath. Sabbath was made for man. i worship God every day of the week and twice on saturdays or sundays. God is never sleep and he welcomes us come rain or shine. Man limits God to one time a week. God is limitless for every day and and every minute we give him praise.

we don't be attentive to and have no way of understanding which day in our contemporary calendar is the easily "Sabbath". Even in the time of the time of Jesus, the Jews did no longer be attentive to which day because of the fact in the time of the Babylonian captivity (basically some hundred years before), the persons all accompanied the Babylonian Calendar. evaluate right here: Counting from the hot moon, the Babylonians celebrated each seventh day as a "holy-day", additionally talked approximately as an "evil day" (which potential "incorrect" for prohibited activities). On at the instant officers have been prohibited from multiple activities and undemanding adult men have been forbidden to "make a choose", and a minimum of the twenty 8th grew to become into nicely-called a "relax-day". On each and each of them, options have been made to a various god and goddess, curiously at dusk to ward off the prohibitions: Merodach and Ishtar on the seventh, Ninlil and Nergal on the 14th, Sin and Shamash on the twenty first, and Enki and Mah on the twenty 8th. pills from the 6th-century BC reigns of Cyrus the great and Cambyses point out those dates have been now and lower back approximate. The lunation of 29 or 30 days fairly contained 3 seven-day weeks, and an quite final week of 8 or 9 days inclusive, breaking the non-provide up seven-day cycle. between different theories of Shabbat beginning place, the nicely-known Jewish Encyclopedia stepped forward a theory of Assyriologists like Friedrich Delitzsch that Shabbat initially arose from the lunar cycle, containing 4 weeks ending in Sabbath, plus one or 2 further unreckoned days consistent with month. The problems of this concept comprise reconciling the variations between an unbroken week and a lunar week, and explaining the absence of texts naming the lunar week as Shabbat in any language. in accordance to Marcello Craveri: "The Sabbath (in Hebrew Shabbath) grew to become into merely approximately easily derived from the Babylonian Shabattu, the pageant of the entire moon, yet, all hint of the style of beginning place having been lost, the Hebrews ascribed it to Biblical legend." I worship the Lord 7 days a week.....

Sunday just so happens to be the day that we do it corporately as a unit.

7th Day Adventists are the ones who are sticklers for Saturday as being the true Sabbath
