I try to remove it from the backyard, but sometimes I miss a pile and I find him chomping on it in the backyard.

This is very common. Unfortunately, the two products that I have tried that is supposed to stop this (Deter & Forbid) have not helped AT ALL!

The only problem with it is if your dog has a parasite, he will continually reinfect himself since they are shed through the feces. This happened with my dog, and it took forever to get rid of it!!!

The only thing that I have tried that has had some success is feeding the dog some pineapple with her meal. This is supposed to make it taste horrible when it comes out the other end.

Yes nasty habit. Dogs do this because either they are imitating their mother, mothers eat the puppies poop to clean the den, they aren't getting enough nutrition in their diet and if they eat too fast the poop smells like their dog food because they have too much undigested kibble in it.

The thing to do is to hand feed your dog if he is eating too fast, put a few bites of kibble in his bowl and do this until he's finished. If he isn't a fast eater then change his diet to a high fiber low protein kibble, it will take longer to digest, he will feel full longer so he won't be as tempted to eat his poop, and lastly feed him a slice of raw pineapple after each meal. It will make his poop taste terrible and he'll leave it alone.

Saw a trainer do this on "It's Me Or The Dog" it's a great program that deals with behavioral issues such as poop eating, peeing and pooping in the house, separation anxiety, excessive barking, dogs that pull excessively, or run away and aggression. It's shown on Friday Nights on Animal Planet. I love cesar but he doesn't deal with issues like that. Not everyone has an aggressive dog but at least most of us have a dog with one of the above issues.

Good luck

Try mixing some tomato paste with your dogs food. Just a small amount though. They will eat it no problem usually but once it comes out on the other side they usually wont touch it. It could be hes not getting enough vitamins.

This is normal for a dog. Lots of dogs will do it. My dogs did too. Your dog will eventually grow out of it. Until then, when your dog does it, remove him from the area. Good luck =)

ugh!! My dog does that too! And she's relentless. I've tried everything. Our vet said it's common in puppies, and they should outgrow it....until then - you can get deter at Petsmart....tablets that are suppose to make the poo taste nasty... has a 95% success rate *unfortunately, my pup is in that disgusting 5 % )

I have read that when dogs do this, their is something lacking in their diet, or their food, is not staying with them long enough.

i think i heard somewhere that what you can do is sprinkle a little bit of a bouillon cube on his food. then when he craps it out he won't eat it.

There is a product called "Forbid" that you can get from your vet that should help.
