Should I adopt a child or have one? There are so many orphans in the world and I'm pretty scared about having a baby of my own... What should I do?

Let me rephrase it. It's not that I'm afraid of having a child it's just every woman in my family is petite and with almost every birth there is always some complication and then an emergency c-section.
Recently my cousin was pregnant and her water broke and it was nothing but blood. Sadly she lost the baby, and it worries me that the same thing might happen to me.

I was adopted and would say if child birth is not impossible then have your own because there is always a niggling feeling of the child that they will want to find their birth parents and that can be very hurtful for you. I am 5ft tall and had a son at 11lbs - with many complications but he was healthy and well and there is no feeling in the world like holding your own child after having just given birth to him. Get an epidural and get on with it or you'll regret it for the rest of your life. There are risks in everything we do in life but if we dont take chances then what quality of life can we really have?

I say why not? When I was younger, I use to believe that you could never really love an adopted child as much as a child you bore, but that truly isn't the case. This summer I worked at a daycare, and I fell in love with one little girl who had no parents, no relatives, no nothing. She was the sweetest lil thing and she was only 22 months old. She could barely speak and loved to held. Oh, how I loved her dearly, but I was to young to adopt. I am only 15 and it broke my heart when the job ended. Sometimes I still visit the daycare, but I try to do it only once or twice every 2-3 months. I miss her so much. But anyway, my point is, adoption is a wonderful thing and gives children with out anything, something. So therefore I say adopt. And.... you can have a kid later if you choose. It's the best of both worlds. Hope this helps.

Only you can really make that decision. You should know that you can have adopted and biological children. Maybe you can adopt first, then in a few years you might not be as scared to have a biological child, then you’d have two great kids.

Having a child is the most wonderful and powerful experience in the world. You do not give any reasons as to what scares you about having one of your own, either way it would still be your own. I believe that adoptive parents are very special people cause they take a total little stranger and give them the world. Just think it through cause having a child takes a responsible and loving parent 24/7 for as long as you live, not just till they turn 18.

I did both, and I can tell you that having them yourself is a whole lot easier than the adoption process.

If you can have your own children that may eliminate you from some adoption lists because they often only want couples with fertility problems.

If you're afraid about having one, though, it may be good not to adopt one either. You're apparently not ready to be a mother.

I, personally, think you should adopt. I was adopted at 2 months of age and love my family. My brother was about 2 years old when my parents adopted me. Before they got married, they decided to have one and adopt one. Well, 4 years after they adopted me, my sister came along! She was born on my 4th birthday!

There are so many children out there without parents and it sounds like you'd be a great parent to one of those needy children!

Of course, just because you adopt a child doesn't mean can't also give birth to one, too!

Good luck! and Bless you!

This is a very, very personal choice. One that needs to be made with your partner, if you have one. No one can decide if adoption is right for you or not, except for you.

I suggest you check out the Dave Thomas Foundaion and request their information on adoption. It can help you decide if you really want to adopt or not.

Oh, and you can do both. I have a son, and we're trying to concieve another child, and we plan on adoption in the future.

your the only one that can make this decission...what is right for one isn't always right for another...I've always said I don't want to have kids of my own because there are so many kids that need a good home...but more I think about it...I'd love to have one of my own that has my red hair (a family trait) and is like my husband...but ultimatly I know I will adopt atleast one!
