There are a few potential reasons why some people have problems with Wicca. First of all, it is a modern-day (founded in the 1950s by Gerald Gardiner) interpretation of the ancient pagan (i.e. before the Christians converted everyone) religions established in Europe long ago. Because it is a "created" religion, people may have difficulty with believing that anyone could sincerely believe in its tenets. Scientology and Mormonism have similar issues. Second, there are a lot of people who confuse Wicca with Satanism. This is primarily misinformation due to certain Christian-related sources confusing the pentacle/pentagram (five pointed star surrounded by a circle) with the inverted pentacle/pentagram that some Satanists use as a symbol of their religion. The upright pentagram is an ancient symbol of protection which existed long before the Christian cross or the Satanic inverted pentagram. Thirdly, many people fear the unknown. They find it difficult to believe that a person can sincerely have earth-centered beliefs and choose a path that gives you the freedom to follow your heart rather than a mythology that was founded by an agrarian society intent on controllling and limiting its women and maintaining the status quo (and this applies to all three of the major monotheistic religions.)
This isn't a complete answer but I do hope it helps. Blessed be.:)

Okay, first off, I want to clarify something. A few of the answers above seem to paint all Christians with the intolerance stick. Everyone's an individual, and gets to make hir own decisions about what s/he thinks.
People condemn things they fear, which is often the case with Wicca. HOWEVER, from what I've seen here on YA, most of the people making negative comments or questions are just looking to get a reaction out of the pagans. By posting this question, you're feeding right into their game, by showing that they've gotten to you.
Ignore them, and live your own life.
Also, Wiccans may not be starting wars, but pagans in general are far from perfect. We attack each other more than people outside the community ever attack us. We argue over stupid things like who gets to use the word "Wicca", and criticizing the personal beliefs of other pagans that don't quite jive with our own. We play stupid human tricks, too, so don't get into the idea that we're this flawless, perfect spiritual group.

Yes i find that quite odd. All the wiccans and pagans i have ever known are really nice people and have never even said a harsh word towards another, however when it comes to other religions they are automatically branded evil and persecuted for being evil with no evidence towards it.
I think most people don't understand what paganism or wicca is and still think that it's a bunch of old hags crouched round a cauldron casting evil spells on good people.

The negative answers that I have read on this question seem to have the same theme. "Magick is used on people without their permission." That is the farthest thing from the truth.
For all these naysayers I ask this question while answering this one. If Pagans, Wiccans and Witches have all this power then why do we waste our time trying to help you understand that we are nothing like the Witches of your Bible and we don't believe or worship your Devil. As powerful as you make us sound I would think that Christians would be quaking in their boots that we don't come together as a group and force you to accept us by using magick!
Get a grip Christians. Either believe we are evil and fear us or believe we are good people and stop misrepresenting us, but don't do both.

Maybe they think wicca is about doing witchcraft or casting spells...to make people do what they do not want to...or maybe casting spells to get personal benefit at the price of other people? Or maybe they think wicca is about getting joy from cursing people?
I'd condemn wicca too if that is what I am thinking...but then...I don't know anything about wicca to draw any conclusion...so, I remain with the idea "I do not know about wicca. So, do as you like as long as you don't harm me in anyway."

Simply put, people condemn what threatens them. WIcca is the fastest growing religion in the US and the Christians know they are losing their majority.

People really have no idea what it's about. You'll find a lot of people talking about how it's evil to control others or 'ride around on broomsticks.' (And yes, I did actually get that in one of my answers.) They don't seem to understand or even know about the basic principles of Wicca.

People that condemn Wicca are whacka!
However, you should consider killing a few more people than you currently do. Its a great way to gain converts. Of course they will be dead but you can still list their names on your membership database.

Becuase they have not researched it. They think it is about witchcraft and congering up spirits. There are a lot of people who dont really know what it is about. They close their mind to new things. And I say a closed mind is the sign of an empty head!

Some people just are afraid to open their eyes to any other beliefs. Then you have the fear mongers who love to try to scare people with their god and hell.
