Since it is National Talk Like a Pirate Day, I was wondering what R&Sers know about pirates and religion. So share with me what you know.

Aye, my lass... we pirates are religious about plunderin' and drinkin'...

... and there is a direct correlation between the decreasing numbers of pirates and the increase in global warming, don'tcha know...

I think they were more the rob kill spend the money on women of ill repute kind.
Probably were some from all faiths of the day as there is today. Yes they still exist.
Lots of Muslim pirates as well. Look at Tripoli.
You can find pirates today around Malaysia. They even hit the big cargo vessels. I'll bet a dollar to a donut they are all Muslim too.

Like many people in the 1700s, Pirates were religious in a way. Some more than others.
Of course being religious didn't keep them from killing and stealing....kind of like religious people in modern times.

I don't know if they were religious or not, but I have heard that they were extremely superstitious. That in itself could sort of be seen as a type of religion.

Well, maybe. They needed something to blame for all the problems..

I know they were superstitious... they did belive in beings and bad luck. Thats why there was naked ladys on the front of their ships...

surprisingly enough yes, many well worn bibles have been recovered from areas like, Tortuga, Hatti and Port Au Prince.
