Get him something that he can assemble ( with supervision) by himself. Kites are pretty easy to put together and will provide him with hours of fun.

My six year old son is really into WEBKINS right now. He doesn't really care about the stuff animal but he lives for his 1 hour a day online. WEBKINS are stuffed animals that come with a code that you go online and put into the computer. Then you play with and feed and bath and build a house with them. It doesn't really matter if he already has one because each WEBKIN comes with it's own one-of-a-kind code so if he has two dogs then he gets to play with two dogs online. Hope this helps!!!

The sky is the limit with a 7 year old but my suggestion is to get him something creative for his mind that does not allow him to become a couch pototo in front of a tv set or a mind mazed zombie in front of a computer screen. Kids need to romp and play. Build him a 'timber town' in your back yard. Then all his buddies can come over and they can romp and play. The sites below are a small replica of what I am suggesting. My brother built a really nice one for his kids. It was 30 foot square play area and the entire bottom of it was sand so that they couldn't get hurt but also could make sand castles as well. It had forts and hiding places and climbing ropes and bridges, etc. There is a really nice one in our city called Timber Town. But you can make any varitey of them in your own back yard. Then watch your place be the #1 hang out for friends to come over. If you make it with growth in mind, then your son will want to use it even as late as age 12 to 13. My brother's son is 14 years old now and still goes out to his forts to have his quite time. It was built when he was 6 years old. It is made of all the heavy pretreated wood with bolts to hold them so it is going to be standing for quite some time. My brother's oldest girl now brings her kids over to play on the wooden gym. Also include him in on the project. It will be good dad and son time and the memories will last a lifetime if you have lots of fun and laughter while doing it, like 'man to man stuff'.
